Want to transition from square enix launcher to steam, is it possible?
I played ffxiv through the square enix launcher for around 400 hours and then stopped playing. And as the title says, I want to play through the steam launcher now for a multitude of reasons. I purchased the game on steam years ago for some reason, so I have the base game, but whenever I use the info for my square enix account in the launcher I get the message, "This service account does not have a valid FINAL FANTASY XIV license for this platform or your subscription has expired." Now this message could be because I don't have a subscription active, but when I log in through the square enix launcher, I don't get that message and it immediately starts patching, even without a subscription.
I was wondering if there was any way for me to play through steam with the account that I played on square enix with, because it has the expansions and my main character on it.
Any help is appreciated!

You can only use the Steam version IF you have a Steam license registered in your service account. Since its not the case, you CANT use it. Unless you create a new Service Account in Mogstation and register the product key you got from buying the base game here. Of course, you'll need to start from scratch and buy expansion from Steam

You can buy the Starter-Edition from Steam and use this here https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/cytlbn/launching_windows_version_with_steam_features/ to play with your SE Account. Use as usual at your own risk.

This is the right answer.

There isn't any risk to this as the launcher downloaded through Steam is the exact same as the one downloaded directly from Square, the only difference is the "-issteam" launch argument added by default on the Steam launcher.

To be clear on expansions, you will have to keep purchasing them outside of Steam as the expansion codes from Steam will not work on a regular Windows account. The launcher when running through Steam will still download expansions your SE account owns so you don't need to own them on Steam for that.
