It's also not recommended to level the first of a class, but some are able to take the experiences in one class of a role and apply it to the new class subbing in the different skills as appropriate. Especially in the tank role in this game.
2. A level skip alone will not get you past the story. HOWEVER, this could work in your favor if you level skip alone. You'll be able to get used to the Dark Knight's kit at a slower pace in dungeons instead of all at once.
3. If you get both the story skip and the level skip, you need to spend some serious time getting to know the Dark Knight. Whether that's queuing through the dungeons level by level or spending several hours between a guide and the game learning and practicing the class. Several hours each if you're goal is to enter high end content such as savage content.
EDIT: If this is your first character through the game, I highly advise against a story skip. You only experience the story the first time once and skipping ahead will spoil certain points earlier on if you later decided to replay them. So a situation that's supposed to make you unsure if someone survived could be spoiled by seeming them in the future or by seeing people mention their death.
a) you will be expected to know how to perform your roll in group content and while FF14 people are much less toxic/abrasive in said group content they have a very low tolerance for for those who have clearly boosted and are wasting their time.
b) tanks and healers level ridiculously fast compared to DPS since they get insta-queue in nearly all group content. IMO if you are going to boost, boost a DPS since they are much more frustrating to level.
This is objectively false, do not listen to this person. The DRK job storyline is fine up to 50 (I would say upper 1/3 of job storylines), but down right terrible from 51-70 (probably the worst or at least bottom 3). The ending is deeply unsatisfying as well as confusing and nonsensical.
How one enjoys a story or does not is subjective.
Many people do rate the DRK story to be one of their favorite job stories in the game. Your mileage may vary.
I stand by that quote and it always holds true, haven't been proven wrong yet.
It still isn't something I would recommend at all.
MSQ will pretty much level you up anyway. Save it for the Dragoon or for an alt class after you've finished the MSQ.
"confusing and nonsensical"
Lemme guess, you think Frankenstein is about a spooky monster and a mad scientist who has to stop his evil creation, right?
Different strokes for different folks, I guess. It's absolutely my favorite of the job stories I've played. So good. So, so good. "Downright terrible" is ...opinion, not objective anything, and the ending was exactly right for the story. It was neither confusing or nonsensical.
