Questions about gears in ff14

I'm really confused with gear tiering in ff14. I read that lower level gears (under 80) are made easier now so we can catch up thru just story without farming anything whatsoever.

Even RELIC lv 60 weapon which I assume should be the best weapon for said level has lower item level (IL 210) than plain weapon from marketboard with 255 IL.

So should I just buy plain gears everytime I level up when I feel I need it or is there anything I don't know about from Relic or other tiered gears ? maybe upgradeable or something, there isn't even set bonus like most games. Everything is synced here so gearing up is kinda unnecessary just for questing for normal monsters.

TBH fashion is much more expensive than gears lol. Spent millions just for fashions, while for gearing up only cost a few hundred thousands.

At level 50 you get a full set of blue gear through the msq, and you get a better full set through your job quest. and the same repeat at level 60, just play the game, and don\t worry to much about gear, that circus will come later. Doing dungeons and such earn you tomes you can splurge on better gear too. Once you pased 50 and into 60 you usually over dressed and over level.

I'm lv 63 now, using just gears I bought from market board, they're more or less the same Item Level with any blue even relic/anima weapon for lv 60 lol.

So it is true then , that gearing up is made easier with quests so new players can catch up with veterans much faster, coz veterans stopped at every pitstop before expansion was out while new players can now just marathon till the end.

I assume gearing up is necessary at lv 80, but then by the time Endwalker is out, it will also be made easier, rinse and repeat, like that ?

Should I do Anima weapon or no ? I read that it's only for glamour now, is it upgradeable ?

The relic gear have purple background on it. They are upgradeable through series of quest, raising their iLvl further.

Dungeon (green) or crafted normal High Quality gears of the same levels, can have higher iLvl than base relic weapon.

As far as I know unique gears (blue background) hold the highest iLvl from them all. With iLvl 270 on lvl 60 gears.

Gearing Up is necessary to get into Dungeons and Raids that require high iLvl gears. Some will lock you out of it if you don't have the minimum requirement iLvl.

Rule of the thumb, the bigger iLvl the better.

If you like a particular look of gear set, you can keep it and use glamor on your equipped set.
For purple / relic gear, don't sell them. As you can do series of quest to upgrade them. Plus they are glowy!

*correction, the highest lvl 60 iLvl weapon is 275. Which dropped from Alexander raid and final Anima relic weapon evolution (Lux Anima)

Ok thx for the info, but seems like all this gearing up is only for latest content, because I just checked marketboard I can just buy lv 62 weapon with 265 ILVL at just 5k gil, currently using lv 60 wpn with 255 ilvl , shld be even more ilvl when higher level just from marketboard with cheap price.

Don't buy from market Board Buy full set + Weapon with Poetics from the Vendor its way stronger and higer ilvl then most crafted gear and they look ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome.

you can buy then at lvl50-60-70 once finished each expansions MSQ the vendor becomes available.

I would argue its better to get Shire gears instead if you routinely do dungeons and duty roullette. Since allagan tomes are capped at 2K. And its still good for several levels above 60 gears. Becuase you need to splurge those tomes anyway, and you can buy them for alt jobs.

Yea I spent some poetics for lv 50 weapon for other classes if it's full, for when I play other classes later on, and Shire set is yea higher ilvl, now I only use my poetic for Shire when it's full.

The WHM robe can be used for detective glamour too hahah

In FF14 gear is not strictly tiered. But there is max ilvl per patch or level
For example on lvl80 current patch you can have max 535 relic weapon or last released savage raid weapon with 530 augmented token gear or last released savage gear
Lvl 70 was 405 and 400
Lvl60 275 and 270
Lvl50 135 and 130

But the interesting thing is the difficulty of obtaining say 275 weapon vs 270
You can just go buy 130-400 stuff with everyday tokens from Rowena (2440 per set)
But to get 135,275,405 or 535 you have to either REALLY grind the each expansion relic quest until the end OR do savage raids of that tier

You follow the relic quest chain grinding everything it asks of you then it gets better every time. It also gives you ability to get copies of previous relic steps to glamour them on anything you want

I see, kinda like Thyrius relic weapon quest chains it seems, but it got obsolete too soon for the Thyrius and not upgradeable.

People either grind old relic for bragging rights nowadays or for glamouring it on top of current BIS, I'm personnaly on the verge after finishing the current Shadowbringers relic go back and just do Heawensward Summoner relic, just because it looks SO MUCH BETTER THAN CURRENT LIKE WHY

Is it the very same weapon from 60 to 70 to 80 ? or each one has different quest chains ? if it is different then might as well get the latest level later, but if it needs lv 60 to 70 to 80 then have to grind for it

Seems like Glamour > Gears here in ff14 LOL, I spent more gils on glamours than gears in this game.

Damn I just checked even Thyrius has its upgrades , this game doesnt really have info regarding gears, have to google it for info. Kinda badly designed for that imo, other games have every gears obtainable by a class via a furnace (pwi) or market list (bdo) or self expanatory.

It can be the same maxed relic weapon or a brand new one by grinding quest items.
When I started HW relic (60) weapon quest, it asked my for my maxed lvl 50 relic weapon -OR- grind for items to start the quest chain.

Seems like Glamour > Gears here in ff14 LOL, I spent more gils on glamours than gears in this game.
