Steam log in is broke?
48 hours, I cannot log in through steam. I dont know if Steam is broke or the infamously broken log in system for FF14 is at fault but I have burned 2 days of time so far and I cant get past the Steam handshake. I am about ready to ask for a refund for both the game and time. Its totally unacceptable that they dont have 24 hour chat support for a game that is active 24 hours a day. So does anyone know how to get past the steam handshake? My password for steam is up to date but it tells me to try logging in later, its been 24 hours, how long does Steam make you wait? This is the worst experience I have ever had trying to get into a game in 20+ years of online gaming.

First you will NOT get a refund. Read the store page.

What error do you get?
Or what do you hope to accomplish without anything we can help you with.
Nor any specifics?

When it did the handshake I got my password wrong because typically on Steam you do your password once and never use it again. Now for 24 hours, trying to put it into the handshake between the game login and Steam and it says to try again later. I have redone my password, it is accurate. How this game has survived 8 years with such a bad interface is beyond me. I thought Asmogold was being dramatic when he said it took hours to figure it out.

I didnt see anything about no refund on the store page. Refunds are a standard part of online transactions. I will go to the BBB for the $35 if I have to.

The no refund is clearly on the store page. It's no one's fault but your own that you missed it.

I do know that there are third party launchers out there that people have used to bypass a number of issues.

You could also download the launcher from SE's site and right click on the .exe file and in the Target field after the "...ffxivboot.exe" add " -issteam" without quotes

So it would look something like this:

"E:\Program Files\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\boot\ffxivboot.exe" -issteam

It's how I launch FFXIV. I forget the exact reason why I have the SE site launcher version when I own the Steam version.

soooooo...... I'm confused but I do want to help but let me get this straight

You can't login to steam to launch the game yet you are posting on the forums....
You can access the game (via browsing to the game's install path) via steam but fail the steam handshake (because apparently you're offline) ??

..... am I getting something mixed up here? If you can post to the steam forums you're online and SHOULD be able to launch the FF-launcher via steam (thereby automatically passing the handshake)....

What am I missing here?

@Overeagerdragon- yes. I have no problem logging onto Steam from my PC. If I try to run FF14 it brings me to the 1st log in, where I have to type my login and password every time, then it brings me to Mog website where I have to log into my account there, then I go into account, put in the registration numbers. Then it brings me to the handshake screen where it wants me to put in my Steam login and password I guess so it maybe wont ask me for three different logins everytime I try and play. Initially I got my password wrong, I never use it since like most people, it never logs out. So I went and changed my password and now putting the password in, it tells me I got it wrong too often and I should try back later. It has been doing this for 24 hours now.

I have since changed my password and email associated with that password. Still wont let me log in through the Mogs site. As you can see, still no problem through Steam itself.

Yet FFXIV is sitting at 50K plus active players online right now.

And the forum isn't flooded with players saying they can't log in who had previously been able to log in (ie: not likely an account set up issue).

So it's not the Steam launcher most likely.

So whats the issue? I paid my fee, bought the game. Why cant I just log in like I do every other game on steam library. How long does Steam make you wait after failed log ins? It has been over 24 hours at this point. This is some major bad design.

You think I havent tried? SE doesnt have 24 hour support and I have left two tickets now, one on Thursday. I cant even find Steam's tech support. All I get is account stolen, reset password stuff. No ticket or chat system.

Sometimes people have run into similar issues. FF14 in particular is notorious for being difficult to get into. Hopefully someone has had similar issues and might have some ideas on how to fix it without me burning another day of paid time not being able to log in

What you're failing at is actually linking your SE account to the steam version of FFXIV you bought. You need to wait a CLEAN 24 hours before you can attempt linking it again (due to failing at your credentials the first time and then retrying within the 24hr window; which resets the timer on SE's end is my guess).

Also; SE support is horribly overrun by the influx of new players...can't blame them for suddenly becoming as succesfull as they are now; you can't prepare for something so out of left field like that.
