Warning, don't create trial account on Steam!
... if you plan on buying the non-steam version of the game. I happened to make that noob mistake. Purchased a non-steam key from shop but account is already flagged as Steam-only because of trial. I only played trial for 1-2 hours or so so i went and tried to delete my account. Now i couldn't re-create an account because my email is still registered to that account i just deleted... Now waiting for email response from their support to hope they can delete all my data from that old account.

So don't go through this crap, save yourself trouble and don't download/install anything from Steam.

O_o you have no other issues do you.
yea, do you know that if you have the game here on steam, that only steam keys for the addons work on your account? and that is is WRITTEN IN RED in your mogstation?

its not like SE dosnt tells you this. + steam is easier due to be able to use paypal which SE has not in their service. i dispise creditcards.

I hear only bad stories about Steam version of this game, such as DLC's being more expensive, some peoples keys not working after Steam DLC purchase etc...

And no, they never emphasized that my account will be locked to Steam forever by simply playing FREE TRIAL.

i bought shadowbringers and my steam key worked fine.
the thing which peoples do often wrong is, they buy for example the game or addon here on steam and are like ... where is my key? as if they never knew that steam has the product keys where you right click the game, then manage and tadaaaa product keys.

for those peoples where the keys dont work, thats often their fault aswell.
why? because they buy their keys off from other sites for a reduced price. (so yea, here is your point that it is more expensive in steam because not on sale valid)

the problem here is that if you registred your account via steam, will the SE site ONLY!!! accept keys from steam. so the game and/or addon MUST BE BOUGHT! here on steam or must be a steam key. it says it in red when you click the nice red button which says "enter expension key here" it then says in a huge red text that this account only accepts STEAM KEYS!!!! many peoples overlook that and then claiming that the key dosnt works. even tho the key would work fine on a non-steam version because they bought on the other site where the key was cheaper a non-steam key.

what if i purchase just continue to play on steam forever ?

so in short, if you have a steam FF14 account and you go to another site where you get the addon key for lesser money. MAKE SURE THAT IT IS A STEAM KEY! otherwise wont the key work on your FF14 steam account.

but that wont happen because most addon keys which yo find online cheaper are all non-steam keys for FF14, therefore wont they work on your account if you use a steam version of FF14. =x

oh yea edit, they often forget (if it is a steam key from a foreign site) to register the key in steam aswell xD

Yea it happened to me too.

I used my Steam email for registering the ff14 account and used it in Steam trial.

Since I cannot buy Steam FF14 because its not available outside of NA (but the trial can, seems like Steam is effective to lure players outside of NA to play ff14, can't buy from Steam, but can play the trial)

In the end, I have to purchase via ff14 website or the Windows PC version, Steam and Windows are treated as different platform so I cannot upgrade my steam account trial and use my other main email, not a big deal though but I prefer using my gaming account for all platform.

Well...
That is completely YOUR fault for not reading the storepage properly

I rechecked store page, there is nothing about this. Actually only thing about the trial is "Download demo" button.

I really only wanted to use my main email for this game, but i read that i can change the email for account later. Therefore i can temporarily use another email for now.

I have played the trial on Steam, too. I have yet to buy the game but I noticed that you can apparently transfer to the regular service in Mog Station.

Log in on https://secure.square-enix.com with your regular browser, hover over "Services and Options" and click on "Final Fantasy XIV Mog Station". On the next page click on the "Your Account" button top left. It loads the same page again but now there is an actual button (at least for me) that says "Transfer to Regular Service" above where it lists my account type as "Free Trial (Steam)". No idea what the button does though. I didn't test it.

Stop spreading lies.

You can NOT use Windows when you have a steam account and vice versa.
Same for the trial.
If you want to get a key you can not use and waste your money go ahead buy a different Key than your trial.
But don't come crying like the key doesn't work or you got a not working key. Because you wasted your money and bought something you can NOT use

I have the browser tab still open but I'm not going to push that button just to check what happens because I have no intention of switching to their regular service. Take it or leave it.

Have a nice day.

I think what that button does is simply upgrade the account from trial to paid version. It might not be steam/regular switcher. I'm fairly sure i clicked that to begin with.
Jott Jul 24, 2021 @ 12:34pm
Fair enough. Like I said before, I haven't bought it yet so I don't know how the upgrade works. Forget that I said anything. :x
