How big of a difference does an mmo mouse make?
This is my first time ever playing an mmo so i'm wondering if more buttons if a game changer. How many of you have an mmo mouse ?

I have had a logitech g600 for about 10 years now, I dont think I would be able to play an mmo without one.

It only makes a difference if you're configuring your entire playstyle to revolve around having fractional-second increases to speed and accuracy. In games like WoW where people mod the ♥♥♥♥ out of the UI and control scheme through addons and are playing top-rank PvP or going for world-first raid clears or world record attempts, it's necessary.

In FF14, it's really not needed, and the difference it makes is minute unless you're also going after world record clear speeds or hunting world-first clears with a static. You can play with any mouse that functions and do just fine. Hell, FF14's GCD system is set up to let it be fully playable on a controller.

it frees up a lot of space. it's not a must-have but it can be nice.

My big issue with them is they're not comfortable and they're super heavy. they're also basically discontinued and wireless ones cost an arm and a leg.

I much prefer my G703 to some G600 or G600 clone, but damn the game makes u make a ton of shift and ctrl modifiers without em.

Don't go out of your way to buy a mmo mouse, it's not that important. You have thousands of combinations available on your keyboard already. (E, Sh+E, etc.)

I was after one of those but can't buy one in the UK.

I mean sure, its not needed. Its not really even a dps boost, but it is damned convenient not needing to use much of the keyboard for binds.

At least in the US you can get one for less than 30 bucks, I think it is well worth the cost.

I like to have rows of binds on here. There are 4 rows of 3 keys which is perfect for the game. I put main 1 2 3 combo on first row, with secondary 123s for jobs that have it on the gshifted first row. Second row I give ranged abilities and placed aoes like salted earth, third row I use for aoe combos, and last row I put cooldowns on.

I like the convenience of most of the keybinds being on my mouse. I tend to put movement abilities like dragoon jumps or tank dashes on the keyboard near the normal movement keys though. I put dash on q, for example.

I've been playing MMOs with my 12 button mouse for years, i couldn't imagine playing without it. Using 1-5 and Shift+1-5 with my keyboard and then my mouse for 7-= and shift+7-= is a must if you use a lot of abilities. Some say re-mapping keys is a good idea but most of those are already used for something else, i wouldnt be bothered trying to rebind some of them unless its easier.

i see some wireless ones on amazon for about 30 bucks and they seem to be decent. Would you recommend a wired one or a wireless one?

I've had 2 razor nagas (1 to replace another) for more than 10 years now. (inaccurate year amount) At first it takes some practice, but they are really convenient. Eventually it's just harder to use the number keys compared to an mmo mouse because theirs less hand movement involved. Especially when trying to reach the 0,-, and = keys

I have never really used wireless mice, so I cannot really comment on that.

Do people actually use the number keys as binds? When I played wow back in the day I rebound skills across the keyboard. It seems like it would be really hard to just use the numbers as binds like that.

I've been using one for a few years now and could never go back.
I even use it for other games. I find it really useful to bind abilities to the side buttons, takes a little bit to get used to but its worth it.
Jethro Jul 9, 2021 @ 1:29am
Having all those buttons makes it easier to have you full kit at your disposal while also moving without breaking your fingers.
Unholy Eve Jul 9, 2021 @ 1:48am
Been using one for so long now I wouldn't know how to go back to a standard mouse, it's very convenient being able to bind anything to those 12 buttons. For any game not just MMO's
Ovan Jul 9, 2021 @ 2:16am
Less than what people say, but still more convenient than having only 3 buttons.

It would help you a bit, but unless you're playing a class with very involved rotations, like Ninja or Dancer, you can do just fine by binding actions to Q E R F X Z and C.
