I am sort of wondering exactly what you mean by "told off for not doing what everyone else is doing" now though. Things like not using a Tank stance when you have them available to you or not dumping aggro or using Diversion as a DPS aren't play-style choices, they just hurt your party and make content more difficult than it needs to be. If you want to do something like that, make a Party Finder for it, but definitely don't force self-imposed "challenges" like that on Duty Finder players, if that's what you're doing.
You seem to have made up your mind about instanced content in this game already however. I doubt you've actually seen Extreme trials, Savage raids, or any of the Ultimate fights yet because those absolutely require all your input. Pre-endgame content is pretty easy compared to that.
You may think you are playing your class right, but most often is the case, you are not.
(I.E scholar macroing their moves with Eos/Selene for better heals... or any class that wants to save on button pressing)
but...just like what azie said, are you doing in said dungeons that makes players tell you off for not "doing what everyone else is doing"?
It's been proven a few times that macros hurt dps roles, especially those with a lot of a ogcd skills, like bard. They can automate a few 2 button combos, but if you are using them for more than that, then you are doing it wrong.
Why would you need macros in FFXIV anyways? It's not like this has fast or complex combat.
If you want to be able to see AOE's as clearly as possible, you're gonna have to zoom out.
this could be useful thinking about it
