Tank tips for dungeon parties
I'm playing my first toon, a Gladiator/Paladin. Currently level 36. Was wondering if anyone had any useful tips for tanking in dungeon parties - I have done a few light party dungeons and so far so good (well I haven't died yet and nor have any of my parties!), although someone did say I should use the tank stance at the start of the instance (but only need to do it the once). Can someone explain why this is?

Any other tanking tips appreciated. I use Provoke a lot to direct enemies (especially bosses) towards me rather than the rest of the group, try to pull mobs as much as possible when required and generally try to take care of the group.

So basically asking what are your most useful actions on the hotbar for tanks in dungeons parties?

Thanks!

[Edit - OK I kinda figured out what I was doing wrong, I should be using "Iron will" as a gladiator tank stance. I was just pressing Ctrl/Z to unsheathe my weapon and that's not how you do it! Doh, I'm such a noob.]

You need the tank stance on because it causes the enemies to prefer to attack you, which is the point of tanking. You turn it on only once because it’s a toggle

Thanks Adore Bliss, that's really useful info. Also Taquito for the reply.

I do try to gauge the level/experience of others in my party and keep an eye on the healer and what the dps are doing, also dictate the pace and take the lead when I feel is needed.

Fortunately the dungeon I did today "Haukke Manor" had other experienced players (healer and dps) who gave me a few tips - in this instance regarding the tank stance. I think knowing how to do those dungeons again properly comes down from experience of what enemies you're going to encounter. I also usually watch a video guide after I've done a particular dungeon so I know next time what to expect.

Also I was reading and watching youtube guides saying that tanks should not use the limit break (I haven't yet) as it's best reserved for the dps members of your party. Any situation where it might be used by a tank?

Unironically this

It's deceptively informative.

They are used in some Trial and raid fights, when the boss is gonna use an Ultimate that is guaranteed to one shot the entire party (Kinda like a scripted fight) you pop your Tank LB3, examples of those fights are: "Alexander's Judgement, Bahamut's Teraflare, WoL's LB4" etc.

It is a niche LB but can be used in ways to cheese some mechanics just like Healer LB3 is a way to cheese a wipe from a certain difficult mechanic.

^^ Lol. Wow that video is brilliant. Funny as well as pretty useful.

Om3ga we posted at the same time. Thanks for the LB tip. I'll probably join a guild at some point to get more experience of dungeons, so far all I've done are the main story quest ones.
