If you just want vanity items just do the beast tribes later on (lvl 50 for ARR and lvl 60 for HW) and they have mounts for 120,000 and 200,000 each once you finish them (they are dailies you do for a few weeks, 8 sets of quests in total)
300k isn't really that much in FF, you could make it in about an hour or two if you were doing lifeskilling at endgame on better servers
I've seen people try make money off stuff like hoard beast tribe dyes and certain cheap glam cosmetics on free trials to save gil but it's not really worth it long-term since you're competing with everyone on a server and it uses up storage space you need otherwise.
most people sell early game crafting mats or crafted gear.
as a crafter u still need rare gathering items or boss drop crafting material that can take a couple hours of farming, so ur gonna spend gil at some point just because an item takes too long to get or is just too hard to get though.
like, leveling crafting is just expensive unless u start leveling all of the crafting and gathering jobs at the same time.
Again, if you're spending more money than you earn when it comes to levelling crafters and gatherers, you probably don't need to level them at all because that's the whole point of having them.
