REEEE MSQ
Probably because they've added more story to it every three and a half months for the past eight years.
That's your problem right there. It's the mentality you're bringing to the game.
The MSQ isn't the filler before the game. The MSQ IS the game.
FF14 is a JRPG then a MMO. People that say the MSQ is "too long" or "grindy", are missing the point that it wasn't made to be rushed through AND the "endgame" is there to give you something to do AFTER you played the story, which is the main event.
It's not a fault of the game, it's people wanting to ignore what the game was made to offer.
And man you're not kidding. It is LONG. They've been adding to it for like a decade almost. I compare it to playing ff7, ff8, and ff9 all in a row and going ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this storyline is so long lol. Of course it is.
You can always just play it in chunks and not back to back 1-80, you've got 4-5 months to get through the main stuff so you don't need to rush.
Because they have no choice if they want to unlock content? Especially if they want to do things with friends? This isn't a normal MMO. It's either blaze through the story to unlock content, or do it at your own place and basically sit around with your thumbs up your butt the rest of the time once you've done your handful of roulette's at low content level.
Where does it say that you can't have a story focus AND have it be engaging and not restrictive? Many MMO's have a large focus on "story" and yet don't have this issue. It's unique to FFXIV.
The MSQ absolutely IS filler for many players. This is an MMO. Meaning players play it for the large amount of MMO content. Not the story. Yet in order to interact with much of that content unlike other games they are FORCED to do 100's of usually filler quests. FFXIV is an MMO. That's it. It is NOT a singleplayer JRPG. If the story wasn't meant to be "rushed through" then why is content locked behind it? Wouldn't it make more sense to allow players to interact with and do the story at their own pace? Again, FFXIV is an MMO. It was made and designed as an MMO. So many of it's continued sub numbers are due to the MMO content. It was made to offer a story AND lots of varying MMO content. Period.
False. This problem is unique to FFXIV. All other MMO's questing is for the most part divorced and separate from main content. You are largely free to progress through the game and it's content however you wish, interacting and doing the story as you desire because in most cases the only content locks are based on character level or gear level. FFXIV has these AS WELL AS senseless quest locks.
