So
After the boring walking simulator early game till level 20 and still has a slow ass mount then you unlock flying when u beat ARR, which is cool then you get to Heavenward and they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ take out flying on that region until you unlock so many bullsh1t bloat quest to that region game sucks on this regard.

be thankful you get anything because flying used to not exist in ARR content and was only added to help new players figure things out quicker. Flying shouldnt even exist period IMO. It shrinks play space, lets people skip everything, and makes exploration and learning the lay of the land pointless. If it must it exist, it should be a reward for total map completion.

I found the transition from walking to land mounts to flying pretty smooth, it was a drag to walk around again in Heavensward but you get used to it and unlock flying pretty quickly anyway

Considering one of the aethercurrents is from the final dungeon of the story of each area, it practically is awarded for completing the area.

Exactly, which is the way it should be done.

Be glad you dont have to finish the whole expansion to unlock flying, unlike in ARR. Just focus on the main quest in one zone until you unlocked all the quests for aether currents and during that you collect the aether currents in the open world. Go to the wiki and it shows you were they are. After unlocking flying you do all the other quests. Repeat until the end of Shadowbringer.

I would 100% agree with you, but quite a lot of maps are designed with flying in mind.

Honestly i enjoyed the SCENERY more when i was able to fly soaking in the beautiful environment, but when im on ground mount it suck i had to always alt tab cuz of how long sh1t takes but overall the game is OK

what i don't like about the aether system is, that the zones often are split in two parts.
One part you can accsess right away and the other part when you progress the story.

So often i roamed the map trying to collect those nodes, wondering if i got them all. Or if the one i can't reach is in that part of the map that will unlock later.

The compass should only react to the aethers currently reachable.

I have only seen that happening in the first two zones of Stormblood. Will that be happening in the zones of Shadowbringer as well? I assumed they made the change because it was too easy to unlock flying in Heavensward.

If only the maps weren't drawn by Salvador Dali.

You're giving the maps way too much credit there, especially when it comes to treasure maps, and even more specifically Lakeland treasure maps, whoever chose the locations for most of those is out of their mind.

What player space? All areas in the game ends up being dead space the moment you move on to the next. It's why they force you to go back to these areas at some point in time to justify them actually not spending any meaningful time designing these areas to actually seem relevant after the expansion has run its course.

It's why Limsa is so ever popular as the MB is next to the crystal. Imagine if every other expansion hub was the same. Instead you get 2 hub areas per expansion with one of them not actually having a MB because reasons, while the one that does requires you to waste 30 seconds in order to reach it.

Imagine if all hubs offered the same vendors and a MB so you weren't forced to move around. You'd *gasp* actually have options and players would fine their favorite home on their own. I'd buy myself a nice apartment in Mor Dhona in a heartbeat. Dead cities/hubs would get populated again for sure.

Inb4 the now so popular Eulmore will become a desert when Endwalker shows up.

Level 20 is like an hour or two though, very fast especially with new player bonus, too bad there are no preferred servers which made it even faster before the "Wow situation"

Also you can make walking mounts faster by
1)Continuing Main Story (it speeds up the mount 25%)
2)Buying riding map early from Grand Company (another 25% but no point after finishing vanilla story and Crystal Tower raids as it unlocks flying)

To add on to this, unlock Ninja, it's passive trait to increase movement speed affects mounts as well, past the usual max speed. It's not a drastic increase, but it is noticeable if you have two players, one using Ninja, the other not, and have them move in a straight line side-by-side.
