FFXIV keeps destroying my PC
Ever since I started playing FFXIV, my PC keeps crashing when I open it. On Event log, it says that my PC crashed because of kernel power (41). I looked is up on the internet, but found no apparent fix (I tried updating my files, changing the power settings,...). Now, my PC keeps crashing even when I don't have FFXIV open.

Does anybody else have the same problem or some solutions?
Thanks

So the game isn't broken, your pc is broken.

Kernel 41 errors is often a result of a faulty power supply. but it could also just be your windows that has a hissy fit. But, the game is not at fault. it might just be the catalyst to an already existing problem.

Though it's not impossible for a game or other piece of software to cause damage to PC hardware, it's extraordinarily rare outside of things like intentional power viruses and the like. More often, the software is uncovering a fault in your PC somewhere.

One of the only examples I can think of, of a game causing actual damage to PC and console hardware as a direct result of the software, is Fallout: New Vegas, which had a bad sector cache write issue, whereby in certain circumstances, portions of a corrupted save file was written to unrecoverable sectors. After a few of these errors, your hard drive would fail.

Final Fantasy XIV has been functioning for 8 years with no known widespread issues that result in hardware damage, so I think it's safe to say Final Fantasy XIV at worst, can be accused of being the cheapest PC diagnostic you'll ever find, because as someone has said, that Kernel error is usually related to PSU issues and detecting that early might have saved the rest of your PC if you confirm that is the issue and replace it. Bad Power Supplies like to take the whole PC down with them when they go.

No. Just no. Power Supplies do NOT cause Kernel errors or blue screens. If your PSU is unstable, stuff SHUTS DOWN. PSUs have zero intelligent connection to the rest of the PC. It's just electricity.

A faulty PSU is a likely cause if your PC reboots or shuts down completely spontaneous. No errors or anything. Just POOF.

If you see kernel errors, BSODs or anything of that tune, you either have driver/OS issues, or hardware (CPU, RAM, GPU, HDD/SDD) problems.

Sounds like you need a new psu.

Kernel 41 usually comes when the system is incorrectly shut down, which in a lot of cases stems from a bad psu (underpowered or faulty which results in the system shutting down promptly). or... it could be a code-18...

but, on of the windows updates has had some issues with the shutdown procedures. which is what i meant with "hissy fit"
