How can I buy one item of materials at an auction, and not a whole pack of 99 pieces? I need two fabrics, but I don't want to buy 99 pieces at once

Look around the servers in your cluster and hope some player is deciding to sell just one at a reasonable price.

thats why i sell in the 20's stack or some around 5's and 2's depending on what it is or used for. whales may also buy expensive items at 99's though. Checking price history can be useful sometimes for those selling

I only ever sell items in stacks of 99 under two conditions;
1. The item sells for a rather low amount, the stack won't come to any more than 20k.
2. It is an item where a large quantity is needed, such as Coke, you need 9 of it for just 1 Darksteel Ingot, so that's 90 to make 10 ingots.

Its all part of the FF14 economics. Whether you willing to buy the lowest price listing but at the larger quantity or the more expensive listing but at the lower quantity.

Like others mentioned you can try server hopping to check out the various listings, you will from time to time find someone trying to quicksell by offering the lower price listing with low quantity for fast gil or a listing run where everyone is lowballing everyone within that server

My retainer have 20 slots available to put up sales on the market board. It make absolutely no sense for me to put up 2 items of a resource ,unless its something very rare that sell for a very high price.

Oh yeah, reading above, there is a trick that CAN help you. Teleport to limsa and change world in your data center. The different servers might have different prices and numbers.

With the current server loads... teleport to another world can have a very long waiting queue not worth the time.

Really? Since when? Even with a long entry queue time, my world change requests still proceed fast. BUT it might be different in different DCs. Oh well, I know it works for me.

I wanted to teleport to my friend (on light), the other night to help him with a dungeon. My wait queue was like 2 hours..

Buy the 99, take what you need and resell the rest. I do that all the time in a pinch.

Or if it's something you frequently use, buy a stack of 99 and sell it back to the market board in 10s, each with gradually lower prices to force the market to collapse, once people start posting more then take back your items and reap the rewards of a cheaper market.

Risky but effective, did this all the time with Casual Attire.
