FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

I tried to like it...
I'm an MMO veteran, I've been playing tons of games like this since childhood, I really really tried my best to like FFXIV online. But how can they engage new players when the first 50 levels or so are sooo boring. After playing fetch quests for about 6 hours I've decided I won't invest any more time in this dull game.

Zones are bland and boring, the story is slow and the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fetch quests keep me threading the same zones over and over again. Combine it with a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ UI that's so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard to get right, and a terrible map and you have a recipe for a game that newer players will hate in a heartbeat.

Sad I've wasted money on this

You could've played the Free Trial that covered the entirety of the base game and first expansion, which would've allowed you to gauge the game after the original content (that they're well aware of the experience with and already cut down by roughly 30% recently), since Heavensward is where a lot of that early content feedback went into improving the experience.

Though, sounds like you weren't really enjoying it to begin with, so that's fine. Not sure what to say about problems with the UI and map in particular, since there's a lot of customization options to the UI (heck, Squeenix has a meaty Official UI Guide on it[na.finalfantasyxiv.com]) and the map shows you what you need.

In all my enthousiasm I just bought it with all expansions and a sub, I was hoping for a great experience. I don't think I actually enjoyed a single quest about this game. New players get overwhelmed with a ton of menu's, to much information in once. And it keeps adding on boring fetch quests. The fact everything feels instanced takes away from the experience, so many load-screens. Even in the first big city.

The UI is a mess, it's horrible. I don't want to look up a guide about how I can make my UI clean. It should feel intuitive straight of the bad, but this isn't. It's a fail in any possible aspect.

Honestly I could say those exact same things about many other current MMO's.

You might be right, however this just feels like an interactive book. Not the experience I'm after. It's a single player game with a few online elements.

Even the devs said it's a FF first and a MMO second

They should have said, "you might as well read a book"
Sosii Jan 10, 2021 @ 7:13am
Yes theres a lot of reading, as its very story focused. That's the appeal for a lot and if its not for you thats completely understandable but its also why you should research more into games before you just buy them, ESPECIALLY buying all the expansions too lmao. idk what you were thinking there but its your money, but hey now you know its not for you, now you may go back and play all those other mmo's sir veteran

Thinking to go ESO or back to WOW, waiting for New Word to release... I hope that one won't be a walking simulator like FFXIV

I don't understand.. claims to be an mmo veteran but put off by fetch/boring quests..? And if you smashed 1 to 50 in 6 hours, what type of gaming chair do you have?

Ow I forgot this is a platform where only fanboys can post something about a game. Something negative isn't allowed. Shows the reason why the contrast is so big with Reddit.

I mean, the guide and the amount of UI customization is there if it isn't to your liking for a reason? Coming off other MMOs, RPGs, JRPGs and even stuff like Monster Hunter, I've not really changed the UI much beyond the default layout because it felt normal and perfectly serviceable. It's not going to work for everyone and the things that can be changed are more than encouraged.

It's... a numbered part of the Final Fantasy series, a long running RPG series first and foremost, so not sure what you were really expecting there? It is basically a traditional single player Final Fantasy RPG with MMO elements added to it, including options to run later dungeon content with NPCs and a number of non-dungeon levelling options if you don't want to party up with people.

I can agree a little, I guess the biggest issue is the MSQ, even though you are a fan of the game, I can almost guess you would agree that the MSQ is way to dull, and that this is the sole reason newer players get bored with the game super fast. The dialogue is terrible, and keeps going on. It's not even well written. If I look it up online now, everyone complains about the msq.
Veotax Jan 10, 2021 @ 8:26am
Yeah, the MSQ for the base game is a bit slow and not to everyone's taste. Personally I kinda like the slow pace, but I know I'm the weird one.

The MSQ gets way better once you get into the expansions. Heavensward, the fist expansion was considered by many to be one of the best Final Fantasy stories until Shadowbrings blew it out of the water.

It gets much better paced later, but if you don't want to wait to get to the better stuff then you do you.

You're not criticising the game, you're merely calling it trash. You come here spouting vitriol about wasting money on something you could've tried out for free and expect to be treated like a connoisseur of MMOs whose opinion is absolute
