Is this some kind of joke? I thought everyone knew this.
Was pretty certain Windows doesn't allow that.
Anyway, i didn't post this to talk about this
Ok well that's a new one for me. Any time I installed a HDD it never allowed me to set D: even when I had no DVD/CD reader installed. Go figure. Though honestly? I'm suspecting it has something to do with that letter as it normally is the default drive for DVD/CD readers.
Have you installed anything else from Steam onto that drive? Though hazard a guess I'm guessing no since you can't download this game to D: drive?
Drive letters are meaningless, they just go in order. C:\ is still in use simply from the older days and it just stuck. Going back, A:\ was disk and so was B:\ (some systems had 3 & 1/2" as well as 5 & 1/2" drives). D:\ was typically allocated as CD/DVD drive as most systems only used one storage drive (C:\).
Drives are automatically given a letter in sequential order following from C:\ but it is possible to change them in Windows, too. (Right click start menu, go to Disk Management, right click on device and select Change Drive Letter).
Anyway, in Steam setup, you can set where your games are stored. Just set this to your D:\ or as required. That's what I did, works fine. If you have multiple locations, right click the on one your D:\ and choose it as Default.
Then why did you then? as far as I'm concerned this is most likely causing the problem.. If you don't want to talk about it then why post here and ask?
They were already told to do this. I just realised what they said in response..
So basically that means it's the game launcher not Steam that's having the issue. I'm still betting it's due to the drive letter but whatever.
This won't work - if the game was purchased via Steam then it must be launched via Steam. If the game was purchased direct from Squeenix, it must be launched via the separate launcher.
That is where you're wrong and alot of people on this forum know that it can work from Square Enix client OR Steam Client as they BOTH require the SAME Square Enix login. It does NOT matter which one you use. Hell most of us prefer the Square Enix client.
Just been doing some research and apparently the Steam FFXIV client attempts to install to My Documents>Final Fantasy XIV by default, though frankly not sure why that would be a thing except for settings which shouldn't take up that much space. However, if this is the case then there is a way to change the My Documents location by default. Realistically setting the location for steamapps on D: as the Main game install location SHOULD resolve it but I'd still recommend using Square Enix client.
Anyway I'm done. It's really late for me so I'm calling it a night and not really in the mood for this. Best of luck either way whatever you decide to do UwU
I have every other game downloaded in D, I just can't change launcher's default download location
