FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

Needing Legit Social Interactions
I've put quite a few hours into FFXIV. Been in a few free companies and one thing I've noticed is that the community on this game is pretty nice, if not a little too soft at times; even TOO cordial to the point where it's a bit robotic (even on fc discords)

What I'm saying is, is that I'm looking for people to play with that don't walk on eggshells
(aren't afraid to have intelligent dialogue, even it means discussing controversial topics)
and have a player base that actually does content together on a weekly basis, though this isn't as important as the former.

I love this game, but I'm to the point where I'm needing more than just content. I'm willing to pay for a server transfer.

I'm 27, can be opinionated, helpful, I try to be respectful as a rule, and I play this game to have fun for the most part. But I wouldn't mind to enjoy the social aspects of it, since I grew up playing WoW, and I know what it's like to make friends from complete strangers on a video game. (those were the days before the game went complete ♥♥♥♥♥ in Cata)

My fiance is in the midst of building a gaming rig, so she'll be playing FFXIV relatively soon too. So there would be an extra fc member on the way, as well. (in a few months or so)

Know the feeling, but my biggest problem is the lack of people actually willing to engage with the content on a social basis (ie. as a group who know and get on). It seems all anyone can talk about is RP, end-game or glamour. Different people different preferences, I suppose, but I rather thought the point of an MMO was to engage with people and work together. It seems you have to speed through the entire game to actually start playing it at the end XD

It is, for the most part. Most of the fc on my server (Lamia) are either glamour players who act like it's Second Life, or anti-social content grinders. Conversations are either super vanilla

"hey, how is everyone"

"good, did you do the new patch yet?"

"not yet, getting to it tho"

Or in-game interactions are pretty short-lived. A few emotes- The end.

Eh, tbf it IS a good game; but it seems to be confused as to whether it's an RPG with unskippable multiplayer content, or an MMO with a hyperfocused, to the exclusion of all else, player-base. I'm honestly finding it similarly frustrating. The first FC I joined seemed more to be centred around decorating houses (I'm sat there with a multitude of dungeons in my quest log and a queue 45mins plus) and the second seems to be an excuse to chat memes at eachother but in reality not do anything else.

It's plausible I've just had really bad luck with FC's, but not so plausible when you look at the player base as a whole.

Syncademy seems to be the only saving grace of the MMO in it so far, and that thinly.

Anyway, sorry - mild moan XD I do agree with your point

What's Syncademy?

And it is a good game, for sure. Plenty of content, lots to grind, great story (Heavensward and Shadowbringers) regular content patches, etc.

But it's missing that special perk many MMOs suffer from these days. What's an MMO without a social community?

Syncademy is a player community, 500 +, of players that replay older content as well as the new - synced, and not to skip through it but actually enjoy it. It has genuinely been one of the very few ways I've been able to enjoy dungeons, though it's early days yet. Have only recently joined. Worth a look on the community finder, they basically aim to enjoy the game, rather than run through it at the speed of light and then rehash end game over and over for rewards like most. Or at least, that was the founding aim.

How does one go about joining this? If you don't mind me asking, what server are you on? Do you still play regularly?

It's kind of funny, I've made more friends playing games like Monster Hunter than most of today's MMOs :steamfacepalm:

Curious, which data center are you at? If you in Zodiark the FC I am in may quench your social interaction fix, we don't fancy doing content in unsync and we do old and new for the fun and social aspects, due to it being December and the new patch some of our members are busy with holidays and getting that end game content complete tick of the latest raid but we have a discord that there will always have someone or maybe a few people hanging out in the VC channels up for a chat, we do old and new planned content on Fridays and Saturdays.

That's because only the best kind of people play Monster Hunter while MMO's are host to a lot of fetish chasers.
