Rarified rainbow cotton boll?
I collected three of these while exploring, assuming they'd be something I'd sell to a collector or use as an ingredient. But I don't see any vendors who want it or recipes that use it. Googling it turns up nothing at all. What are these good for?

You might be able to hand them into collectable appraisers. Although they might be part of a custom delivery.

There's a collectable appraiser in Idyllshire.

Must be that's not what she's looking for right now. Thanks. I was surprised the internet didn't kick even one thing back on this item.

I believe this is a new item (or new item name) introduced with the latest 5.4 patch this week. The collectible system got a bit of a revamp with the latest patch so it is understandable that sites have not been updated yet.

HOWEVER

The collectable value needs to reach the minimum standard or it can't be turned into the appraiser.
At that point it just takes up inventory space.

Also makes sense. I think the NPC just isn't asking for this item yet. Since I'm doing this all for the first time, I wouldn't know what's been around and what's part of the new revamp of crafting.

If it is gatherable, then NPC's will take it (assuming the quality is high enough)

In all honesty, you will need to either out level the items, or splash out on good gear.
I found it was REALLY hard to get started with collectables because my stats were just so bad and gear was expensive.
SO I just out levelled it.
