What is the most boring class to play?
I’m currently going through and trying to level each class up to level 50. So far imo the most boring class is easily the Black Mage. Like the only things I’m playing around is wether there’s multiple enemies and if I still have MP. Otherwise it’s just (simplified) casting fire fire fire fire, out of MP, ice ice, got MP back, fire fire fire, rinse and repeat. Scholar might be the second most boring, but the fact that you at least got the task to heal the group gives it far more points in the fun factor. I’m curious what you people got to say, especially those much farther into the game then me. Oh yea, one minor gripe so far, why the hell does the ninja have to run like an idiot?

Don't listen to Ralf, he has no idea what he is talking about.

There is a meme with Black Mages, learn their rotations and when you have mastered it and are now in the new expansion, forget all that you know with Black Mage and learn again. Almost every expansion with Black Mage changes up their playstyle.

To me all jobs are fun but the most boring to level in my opinion is Lancer/Dragoon, they only become truly fun at lvl60.

Scholar is boring because ARR dungeons are so easy you don't need to heal and just deal damage, maybe do an extreme run or Coils of Bahamut as scholar, i main scholar for healing and they are very fun when you get more skills that requires Aetherflow, DPS 1st along with your fairy skills and Excog, only heal with Lustrate when necessary.

So the jobs I can only say that are the most boring in leveling to me is Dragoon and Warrior. You shouldn't determine a job to be boring if you haven't unlocked their full kit tbh.

Regarding Ninjas, they run like that to give off the sweet weeb energy.

Low level dungeons aren't much fun for any class due to all of them not even having most of their buttons at that point (unless you're playing something that is at least somewhat satisfying in its limitations). It's just worse when the chosen class has buttons that fulfill two different things and their role technically only demands using one of them (Healers).

Some would say that makes it MORE fun for Healers, not LESS fun. Being stuck healing (just like being stuck dealing damage) means you're using limited buttons. There's nothing nicer than a Healer being able to use ALL their kit - unlike some people who'll casually overheal full healthbars or stand AFK waiting for them to drop - or the opposite: those who join and play 'chicken' with the other healer, waiting to see how low the HP bars go before one or the other has to stop doing damage and actually 'waste time' healing people.

I find low level healers fun as I'll often compete or outright beat damage dealers in terms of DPS (and this speeds things up) whilst the need to be ready to heal will always vary per group and keep you on your toes. Scholar is no exception.

As for the actual topic, boring/fun is relative. BLM is one of the most stringent I've played yet it's undoubtedly very satisfying. I levelled it out of boredom one day (having already leveled other preferred DPS), yet as slow as it starts, it became a firm favourite of mine even if the playstyle is quite rotationally strict with little freedom. The fun is maintaining that when 20 million mechanics start going off as a pure long-caster and watching those HP bars utterly disintegrate when you succeed -- but again, relative -- some people will find being pidgeoned into such a rotational long-casting style very boring and probably think that something flashier like RDM diving in and out of melee would be oh so much better.

I've mained WHM almost since the very beginning of ARR - a class a lot of people will find boring - yet as mentioned above, the pure damage/pure healing aspect interests me, and while 99% of my late-game dungeons involve spamming Holy, you will always have moments where you're flitting between use of some of your kit, or ALL of your kit. As a damage-minded healer who is there to 'keep people alive' (not keep them at 100% health), there is a lot of fun to be had (for me). Just a shame so many of them act like some of their buttons don't exist and that they're doing a good job mashing out MedII's before standing around looking at the ceiling waiting for something to do.

Lol parsing a casual game.
there isnt one really, one job someone will find boring will be anothers favourite job.

best thing to do is try each job out until you find the one you like the best. Its so easy to since you don't need to make new characters to try all the jobs out.

and lol ninjas having goofy running animations is quite a common thing, I have no idea why animators intend to always make ninjas run like fools.

Funny that you mention that. I’m at the beginning of Heavensward and have thus far been maining WHM. But after playing and leveling up SCH and AST I think I find them more fun because they have side games to their playstyles. Despite that I still feel torn because WHM just has everything you could possibly want for their toolkit. I might just get stuck flip flopping between them with whatever mood I might be in at the time.

I'm doing the same, except my goal is 60. I have my tanks there, none of those are boring to me. All my melee dps are at least 35, so far so good. Magic users, I only have a Summoner at 31, a Thm at 15 and a Conj at 20. I can't comment on those yet.
Lancer hands down. After everything they've taken from the class I need to be level 30 to even feel like I was doing something.

Funny that you mention that. I’m at the beginning of Heavensward and have thus far been maining WHM. Which is why I've played with all healers over the years - SCH most recently. I always deviate to WHM when I want to get things done (and am a little bitter than ShB made everyone and their mother convert to a WHM). However, since AST was dumbed down and seeing as SCH just doesn't have the same impact (for me) as WHM, I find good ole Stone Thrower far more fun in the long term.

Blackmage is soooo boring, it's like a turret... a turret i've to constantly switch between ammunition or else it jams. Plus every expansion it's rotation changes.

And Bard is soooo weak as DPS. Yeah it is nice to support your group but this is all the bard is good for... and his gear-design ain't to my taste.

Eh Bard can be pretty good as dps as long as you know what you're doing. If you're not fully utilizing the kit, then sure you're gonna be crappy compared to other damage classes.
Paladin is the most boring imo. The rotation is absolutely miserable until like 78 its just the 123 combo and then tab targeting stuns or horrible long cast time spells.
As a lvl80 paladin - yes, until you get the second combo branch it's completely braindead with an exception of tankbuster mitigation

After that you switch rotations, like apply buff first, do OGCD+GCD 1-2, then apply dots AND THEN go back to start and do 1-2-3-4 while buff did not run out, repeat without buff, repeat with buff again

BUT THEN you also have a ranged casting mode, useful sometimes as something to do while physical buff is off, and you also have to either mitigate yourself or buff the other main tank with metered abilities
