What do I need to buy to play Samurai?
I have a job at 56 and I am playing the free trial. What should I buy to unlock Samurai? I don't understand the point of free trial since ARR and Heavensward are already in the free trial. Excuse my ignorance.

Base game is different in that yes, you can do through HW in the free trial, but you will have a low gil cap (300K), can't use the market board, can't trade, can't use retainers, can't shout, can't use tells, can't form your own parties or add friends or join FCs (guilds).

It comes whit storm blood. And its included in shadowbringers.
As you get 2 expansions when you buy Shadwobringers.

Peronaly i recomend you level up some more classes in the free trial at your own pace before you get the expansions and clear the First expansions Heavensward and its post game content. So you can strt the payed expanison as fresh as posible.

Thanks for both answers, I'm just craving a Two Handed Sword DPS and Samurai is the closest to that. I'll see how it goes.

dark knight has 2 handed greatsword and it should come with the free trial now since it includes heavensward (don't quote me on that though)

I leveled a Dark Knight however I didn't really like it since it's a tank

Imagine this game having multispec classes :D. Would be so good.

Not necessarily.
Blizzards World of Warcraft had multispec aaaaand:
1. In vanilla and 1st expansion.
-Warriors could only tank (despite having 2 more specs which were dps but without aggro reduction).
-Druids and Paladins both had Tank, DPS and Healer specializations but were allowed only to heal. (again DPS had no aggro reduction and I dont remember why they wasnt considered decent tanks).
-Priests and Shamans could only heal (because their DPS specs lacked aggro reduction).
2. Even to this day many specializations are considered bad and are not taken to end game content.

Also do not forget that FF14 has lots of jobs and leveling new class/job is much better experience than leveling them in WoW.

UPDATE

I bought the game on steam and used the steam code for my FFXIV Retail Free Trial account and now it's a Steam account.

So now that you are rocking the SAMURAI I guess this becomes your new theme song?

As much as I like talent systems, it would be pretty much pointless, upon every expansion when the talents gets switched and changed there will be a meta, meaning people will only play a specific build because it is the strongest meta and the other talent trees will be ignored. Like a dps only trees will only have one talent tree be played because the other two aren't as strong as the meta.

Yeah. If your class has 2 builds which are considered worthwhile you're lucky.

I already leveled a Ninja to 60. It was pretty fun. I'll level it to 80 after Samurai. However I don't think it's close to a 2H DPS, it's a dual wield class.

But whats better than 1 Katana?

2 KATANAS!

Seriously there is a weapon you can glamour for Ninja that looks like you are dual wielding two Wakizashi's
