Why do many people in this community hate World of Warcraft.

Shower thought. As a person who played world of warcraft and final fantasy for an 'unreasonable' amount of time. I have noticed that a lot of people within this community harbour ill feelings about the World of warcraft, specifically the community and its toxicity whist the most I hear from the world of warcraft community about this game is that it is for 'weebs' or people who cannot take criticism.

I see a lot of hatred about world of warcraft in places where wow players wouldn't even see it. Example. I see many videos talking about the comparison between world of warcraft or simply videos talking about the quality of final fantasy alone in which many players like to draw parallels to how World of warcraft is still the worst kind of game you could play or be like or talking about the wow community's collective awfulness like a hivemind of horrible people..

There are many other mmos that currently exist and some that no longer exist and there are definetly toxic communities in other places to some degrees yet it always seems in my personal experience that most of the xiv community only has their 'scopes' on wow's apparent toxicity.

Now I'm a person who has played wow and xiv and I have my own personal experiences about both but I would like to be as unbiased as possible in this discussion though that will sound very not true in what I'm about to say. In my experience I have faced toxic people (to a degree) on all mmos but I've faced more toxic people in XIV then I've ever faced in any other mmo (including wow) collectively but you often don't hear anything of that from other xiv players statements.

My question is why does it seem like a lot of people who play this game seem to also hate world of warcraft over all other mmos? Do any of you play both and like both? Is this all just another version of the console wars whereas you can only like one and have to hate the other? Discuss.

I used to play WoW, but stopped way before I started on FFXIV, spent some time in Elder Scrolls Online in between, as well as some The Old Republic.
if I had to rank them from best to worst I'd say the list would looks something like: FFXIV, ESO, WoW, SWTOR.
I'm not personally sure why I started to dislike WoW, game just started to feel stale and boring. Dungeons where boring and served no purpose once you where higher level than them, raids where somewhat cool but underwhelming and had the same problem as dungeons.
Dungeons in WoW also had a somewhat unstable playerbase, you try queueing for a level 50+ dungeon in WoW as a tank and tell them you are a first timer and ask about any boss stuff to look out for and see how fast the party size goes from 5 to 1.

That and FFXIV also just has more content open for the average solo player, and don't even get me started on the dead boring crafting system that WoW had to offer.

Yea that's what I hear a lot of people say which honestly makes me feel like I must've be playing the same game. I say this a lot but I've played just about every mmo out there good and bad and the only game that might come close to my bad experiences with xiv is archeage lol.

No offense to anyone meant here, but I notice that a lot of people who complain about toxicity are from US or Canada.
Not saying it means anything just an observation, at some point I'm gonna make a character on one of the american servers to see for myself first hand.

As is constantly explained, the issue isn't with the community, it's because you have anger issues and take it out on everyone else, then act as if everyone else is toxic for not putting up with you.

I am not the only one asking this. I hear a lot about this and I'd like to hear yours and everyone elses take. I would like to ask though. If it was my anger issues and my personal being that causes these problems. How come I say the only toxicity I experience is from this game?

Since you like digging up the past, look through the mmos I've played on steam alone. I've played much more outside of it (ESO, SWTOR, Vindictus, Rs3, Osrs) If I was really this much of a problematic person as you'd like to imply. How come I'm not claiming toxicity from those groups too? Why is this the sole game community I've had personal issue with? Surely if I was a bad person -no- community would put up with me.

Are you suggesting that xiv has the most outstandingly upstanding community that it is the -only- community of basically all of them that apperently has a zero tolerance to me? I mean. I hear things about xiv being really nice which unfortunately I have not experienced. But you are telling me that of all the other mmos, none come close to being nearly as 'clean'? and if not, again, how come this is the only one that I've had bad experiences with.

Heck Xiv is a pretty solid game itself with -some- flaws imo. but this is the first game I've experience where community was the issue in my experience.

Yeah, except the problem is now I know you're lying. You've played every MMO, and this is the only one where suddenly your anger issues weren't tolerated?

Because remember, you've flat-out admitted to taking your anger out on people who had nothing to do with it, and even broke your own keyboard out of anger. Now you expect me to think this is the only game where that wasn't tolerated. I mean, if that's true, that's a point in 14's favor.
