FFxiv is an MMO
very different games. if you want a SP experience get 15, if you want to group with real people get 14
Although if you are asking me to guage the quality of them both, I would put FF14 as the better of the two thanks to the expansions and the feeling that it isn't really unfinished like FF15.
(Don't get me wrong, I love FF15 the way it was, but I vastly prefer this game over 15.)
FFXV is a single-player, story-driven RPG game with decent combat, characters and graphics, whilst FFXIV is an MMO, vastly different. Especially in performance.
Something you need to know about FFXV, though.. the latest patch SE has released has put the game further into the ground in terms of stability. XV is the type of game that's seriously prone to crashing and locking up, but even more so since the latest patch. I have heard the Steam version is at fault because of a fault with Steamworks.
Do some research a bit and you'll see a lot of people complaining about it. Lots have reported that alt-tabbing will lock the game up, fullscreen borderless won't work and that once you open up the steam overlay, you can't close it, forcing you to kill the process.
It has been reported that the previous version (1.25) doesn't have as much problems, however you can't use one of the DLCs. I can vouch on the faults, since I refunded it to use the 25 dollars on retainer services here.
This is sad because it's actually a good game, I don't have much trust in SE fixing this, judging from what they did to NieR:Automata.
IKR, did this dude just say XV was better than XIV?
VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII are all better than XV in my opinion.
At least their complete games on launch :)
F15 is not the best Final fantasy and could have been much more but it's still worth a playtrough because of the bro bonding and the feels.
Ff 14 is a decent mmo with a great story and alot of Final fantasy stuff.
You should play both if you like the series.
FFXV is a really bad game honestly, I would really recomend you skip that one regardless.
The trial lets you get to Level 35 ( Unlocking your advanced 'job' at level 30) So you can start to see how your class will really play.
This last part is very much personal opinion and a downside for you. The main quest sucks sooooo hard until about level 40. You'll be doing the most dumb fetch quests, emoting at NPCs, and it just feels.... Sooo rough.. But ... It picks up after you meet the hooded man at the church.
I'm currently working twords heavensward, so maybe all of the questing I did 1-40 will come out meaning more than it did. But I almost quit a few times and it was only because of my free company (Guild) saying how much better the story got that I didnt. And I'm glad I didnt
Never played any of those but I'll take your word for it. Just curious, in your opinion, what are the pros and cons of JRPGS vs Western RPGs?
JRPG's stick to certain core aspects such as character design, mostly hair, and an asian feel or uber robotic feel(Xenogears) while keeping 3 typical types of combat, mainly being Turn Based, Action, and an rts style(Ogre Tactics and FFT).
JRPGs are, in my opinion, more in depth than western rpg's.
I can do one run through of the Witcher 3, a great RPG but, can run any FF, Chrono Trigger, Legend/Secret of mana, Dragon Quest, Persona, etc. multiple times even the ones from the 90's.
So, pros and cons.
Western
Pros: Decent Publishers, Bethesda, Cd Projek Red, etc. BIG companies with lots of clout.
Localization, the language, if something is translated from say French to English(Assassins Creed) some little companies, mainly Korean will mess up the language making quest dialogue not so good or understandable.
Big IP's are Usually picked up by western companies first, i.e. Disney, etc.
Cons: Some games feel lacking in depth. Some open wolds are bland.
I feel, in MOST, not all, their is no HEART to their work and feel that the games suffer from them.
JRPG's
Pros: Some of the best games in the world.
The teams are smaller and have more passion and you can feel that in the game. When I watch a video of their dev team over coming a hard obsticle, I see tears and actual joy, unlike western companies that only want that $$$$.
Characters a better fleshed out. As if they created an actual person with a backstory and history rather than, oh, you woke up in a prison.
The worlds. Most you can fly, mount, teleport and the worlds are some of the most memoriable out there.
Cons: Some only launch in Eastern parts of Asia.
There are a lot of generic JRPG's flooding the market and you HAVE to watch a video or review before buying wheres Witcher 3 was a must buy.
SOME, not all, act really weeb, I can stand some, but a bunch are childish in nature. Not a bad thing I guess.
================================================
That's pretty much it, I would choose JRPG over western because of years of experience since Chrono Trigger on Super Nintendo.
Theres a lot of good western ones too, Fallout 4, Any Elder Scrolls game, etc.
It's really all up to you.
My suggestion, go get Final Fantasy VIII or VII and Chrono trigger and go ham dude.
You can even play them on your phone, their also in the android store and apple store.
