[Spoilers] Is Omega important?

Just finished SB msq's and started doing the Omega quests from Cid. I normally skip everything that is not related with the MSQ or Hildy because I don't have that much time to play and want to get close to the current content asap, so I want to know if this Omega quest chain is relevant to the main scenario quests of Shadowbringers

Heard a friend mention that there's Omega on ShB msq so i'm worried if i'll have to read all the quests and do it the slow mode with side content, or it won't be necessary or even if its just a super small thing (if the case, feel free to spoil it)

EDIT: So it seems the story doesnt matter for the futures MSQ as I thought. I'm currently playing, im on Alpha, but after the answers I just kept on skiping dialogue. Maybe, with some time in the future, i'll read about it or watch some video. Thank you so much guys!

I don't recall the Omega story being relevant to ShB, but it's been a few months since I finished 5.0.

In any case you should do the Omega storyline because it's good.

Maybe. The entire current expansion is based around optional raid content from 2.0, anything could be "important" content at this point.

Omega gets just one mention in all of Shadowbringers, and reason for his mention doesn't require running the Omega raids for it to make sense, because it can be interpreted in two different ways, which will be in the spoiler below, so read at your own risk.

Because if you did do Omega prior to finding the one text log that mentions him in The Twinning, it can be interpreted they were unable to get sufficient information on Omega's time and dimension travel capabilities because of the WoL and the party they were with defeating Omega before they could research it. However, if you didn't do Omega beforehand, it could just be interpreted that The Sons of Saint Coinach were unable to find Omega and therefore couldn't do the research needed.

Not particularly story line relevant, which I thought was surprising considering how important the Omega Weapon was to the Ala Mhigo arc. I enjoyed the raids though because of the Final Fantasy throwback fights like Exdeath, Phantom Train, and Kefka.

Relevant to the story no, relevant to it's own story? Yes. Do it if you want and ca find people. Same with Binding Coil, story is good but not needed.

It's a fun quest chain. I'd recommend at least doing it for the story once. Shouldn't take very long since it's in the roulette.
