Why you probably can't play the free trial

So I figured out why the game wasn't letting me play. It seems like steam is not properly making Free Trial (Steam) accounts, instead if you walk through the free trial process it makes a Free Trial (windows) account, which is NOT compatible with the steam free trial launcher. After hours and hours of frustration I was able to find the windows launcher and tried logging into there and it logged me in fine. So even though I made my account with steam, I can't play the game on steam. Maybe I just missed something in the process, but I did EVERYTHING through steam, following all its prompts, so if you did the same and your having issues, just a heads up but this seems to be what the issue is.

This has been a thing for a long while now.....

There are 2 versions of the game on PC.

Steam
Windows

They are not compatible, correct. It tells you this on the store page for both.

Right, the question is, how on earth do you actually gain access to the steam version. I went through the steam demo/free trial page, downloaded it, followed all its in steam prompts to make an account, and tried to login and play, and it wouldn't let me, didn't actually tell me why but after hours of trouble shooting I found that it made my account as a windows account, not a steam account. So it seems like there's no actual way to access the Steam version for the free trial, or if there is, the method is super cryptic/hidden.

Regardless, the windows launch seems to be working, so I've given up on steam and moved on to it now after wasting almost half of my rare day off I requested to play this game today...

Search FFXIV FREE TRIAL on steam.... poof there it is

THEN make sure you follow ALL instructions.... It really spells it out for you.... Any issue you encounter is pure user error.....
