Do not buy this game - if you get banned, you will not be shown any proof of transgressions
I was brought to in-game jail and told I was being booted from the game. When I asked for any proof of what I did, my request was denied and I was kicked.

If you subscribe, you are paying for a service that will punish you without telling you what you did.

On the assumption you're going to buy the game to break the rules. Which are so damn lenient I really have to wonder what it is you did.

I assume you kept screenshots and chat logs of the conversation with the GMs.

... I'm not used to being shafted by somebody abusing their power, it honestly didn't occur to me.

I'm legitimately not a rule-breaker, so I'm not really experienced in trying to fight ♥♥♥♥ like this.

My guess is you were either a massive ♥♥♥♥ to someone, or you were RMTing. Probably selling a code or something, or selling a house for large amounts of gil.

The GMs won't do things without proof and even then you have to be lucky that they'll act, so I really don't feel sorry for you.

There was mentor in my server's novice network who kept kicking people out of spite and if she got kicked for it (Since she frequently would only sign into the network just long enough to kick someone before anyone realized she was there) then she'd have her boyfriend do a revenge-kick. This blatant abuse of the system went on for a couple of weeks and ended with the GMs just giving her a slap on the wrist. (Though that actually did calm things down considerably, and pretty much everyone has gotten over it)

So if he wants me to believe that he got banned for doing literally nothing, I'm going to need a hell of a lot more than just his word.

Check your email and tell us what it says. It will outline what part of the ToS that lead them to Temp-ban or permenatly ban your account.
Until then for all we know you could be RMT botting.

Man I keep hearing terrible stories about mentors being extremly eltists or worse. Glad I never joined this :/

Its a good way to help new commers to the game. Thats the only reason im still active on the linkshell. Hell we even made an extended linkshell for those that leave the network for meeting the requirement to still have a source of information.
This is the internet and there will always be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, still there will always be some willing to help.
If SE would just change the icon from a crown to a watering can that would cut the amount of idiots to a fraction. Most only have it because...well you guessed it, its a crown.
They need to grow there ego any way they can.

Meanwhile in the center of the cities you have the same human bot spamming until the the end of days lol.

buy gold? that's the only thing I can imagine would get you banned. That or some serious harrassment.

Actually most bots are deleted within 3 months. Classic sting operation you're not getting, which is why it works so often in films to present that the "hero" failed to do any good by stopping that drug dealer. What he in reality did was stop the only known link the police had to tracking down the supplier.

SE regularly leaves bots "alone" so they can in fact see who's buying gil off them, who supplies them, etc, so they can mass ban the lot.

buying gil is illegal? Oh, damn. Didn't know about that

Actually the standard operation is to remove the bot on site before the infection spreads making the game unattractive to this lower fields workers. As someone who works providing security to big companies i can tell you that Square Enix is taking a cut of the profits with the constant flow of bots.So all comes down to a simple question who watches the watchmen?,

I've seen people take their douchiness to the far reaches and still get nothing for it. You'd have to do some pretty heinous to get outright banned.
