When to level a second class
I'm playing through the MSQ. I really want to be dark knight or gun breaker but looks like it's going to take a bit. Im level 43 and do my duties but still on the 31-40 quest line for MSQ. Does it make sense to just use all this exp until level 60 or should I level up a second job or something. The exp from Quests are so small it's not helping my high level class much.

Probably best to level one class through first, if you take a lot of time levelling other classes you may get bored and quit before you see the higher level content. The story gets better as you progress, and the 31-40 questline is considered poor quality compared to the rest of the game so you really don't wanna get stuck there for long lol

That said, you cannot play as a Dark Knight til you finish the post 50 questline and begin Heavensward, and DRK starts at lvl 30 so you only need to get through 20 levels to make it useable, it also has an amazing job quest storyline that is well worth seeing!

Gunbreaker is unusable until you reach Lvl 70 and finish the post Lvl 70 storyline up to Shadowbringers, and I don't know what lvl it starts at but probably 60 or something so again, you won't have so far to level to make it useable

Only DRK is locked behind the story and requires you to finish ARR out of the tanks. Like Kiri said, DRK is well worth unlocking just for it's job quests alone.

GNB just requires a level 60 job and Shadowbringers purchased. Once you have met these 2 requirements, you can teleport to New Gridania and just to the South of the Aetheryte Plaza, the quest to unlock the job should be there.

It's best to work on leveling one job, once you are on post ARR content, you can level another job when you aren't doing the MSQ as post ARR gives very little exp per quest or if you feel like it, you can out level even before you reach HW. Since you will unlock the MSQ roulette which is a great source of experience.

YES, go level a second job, try an easy but high damage dps.....like Lancer/Dragoon.

MY OPINION ONLY, you should try every job to at least 30 and see how you like them.

My first year of play I only every played Dragoon. I asked the same thing you did....kind of...and got this exact response.

Also, do DoL's too, Miner and Botanist, their extremely easy to level and you can make a good bit of Gil in the process.

If you really never liked to craft, don't worry, me neither, even though mine are all leveled, it took some time and Gil, millions of Gil. Then they did the beast tribes and made the moogles and namazu really easy for xp for crafters and gatherers.

I actually kind of like crafting. But I can see how it's not for everyone. I kind of generally support the idea of doing what feels fun for you. This is a game after all. I think for anyone who feels burned out from the MSQ, just get Astral Era done at least before anything else. But alternating different jobs in between is not a bad idea I think. Keeps the experience fun in between the grinds.

I'm surprised you went so far without leveling another job yet.

I'd recommend having at least one job for each type. One or more tank, one or more DPS, one or more healer. That way you can be ready for any situation.

Whenever you feel like or at least when you start a new expansion. I always moved to another class at the beginning of a new expansion. In ARR I was bard, in Heavensward I moved to Machinist in stormblood I moved to Astrologian and warrior and now in Shadowbringers I am leveling Dark Knight along with my Astrologian (my main)

Dark Knight is 50
Gun Breaker is 60

Dark Knight requires you to Beat ARR to unlock
Gun Breaker you can get even during ARR but have to hit 60 ( Which happens in Perferred servers easily )

My advice is, get to 50, get through ARR and into heavensward. I would alos recommend at least experiencing all the roles, if only to understand what difficulties they face and how you might work better in a team with them.

For those that are wanting to play as a Dark Knight, know that when you beat the ARR storyline and finally unlock it, despite that the quest is level 50, your class / job level for it will actually be 30. It won't be a level 50 like Samurai. You will need to grind 20 levels to get back up, this actually annoyed me.

I don't think this is the case for Gunbreaker, because the weapon/gear for it seems to be level 60.

I've started leveling war and pld from the very beginning, I play through the msq quests with my war while I do the leveling roulette with my pld and I leave the other roulettes and story dungeons for my war.

Like this they are pretty much always on the same level and since they are both tanks they can use the same gear (except for the weapons) so this is a rather easy method.
