Hi, I have a mog account, can I use it on steam?
As title suggests, I am curious if by buying the game on steam, I can still use my Mog account.
Thank you for your time.

It's a little bit complicated. Technically, you can log in with your non-Steam account via Steam and play just fine; however, that doesn't make your account's licence transfer from "Standard" (non-steam version) to "Standard (Steam)" - meaning you'd still have to buy the expansions via SE, and you can't use Steam Wallet to pay for items on the Mog Station.
It's more like, if you come over to a friends place and they have FFXIV on Steam, you can still log in and play fine, but for your own PC it's way less complicated to just stick to one or the other, since you'd have to buy any new expansions twice or mess around with the files a lot I guess.

Ok, so it seems I would be better off by just using the SE launcher for FF. Ty!

That's no longer true, as of a few months ago. If you bought the Steam version you must launch from Steam, and if you bought the non-Steam version you cannot launch from Steam.

OP, what do you mean by "Mog Account?" If you're talking about an existing Square-Enix account such as you might have if you previously played Final Fantasy 11, yes. You can register your FFXIV game to the same account.

However, if you're talking about a Service Account, meaning you've already purchased and registered a non-Steam version of the game and have created characters there, then the answer is no. If you buy the Steam version now you will need to create a new Service Account in order to use it, it will be a separate subscription fee, and you will be starting from scratch with no characters.

If you just want the overlay, add FFXIV as a non-Steam game to your library.

Ok, yes, I have an account already with characters.
So with Steam I need to go from scratch. Got it!
Will download the launcher and add it to the library. Ty!
