Do people play the mahjong game that is in this mmo?

I heard that FF14 has a mahjong mini game in it were you can play against others. Do people play it? Also is there ranks and tournaments? What are some other minigames that FF14 has?

Not really but that pretty much applies to any Gold Saucer minigame.
But that doesn't mean you can't find groups that come together to play from time to time. But you can play with bots aswell.

Other games include stuff Like triple triad, a card game where you can make decks using cards you can collect trough the game. Lord of Verminion which is a mini strategy game where you mainly use your minions you've collected as units.
And there's also chocobo racing which is pretty much another rabbithole lmao. Other than obviously racing chocobos you can breed new generations of chocobos and they always come with new stats so if you like to strive for perfection it could definitely be interesting for you.
There are rankings, I think triple triade and lord of verminion has tournaments aswell... but I'm not sure how many or if any people actually participate.

On Elemental atleast, there's a small but apparently regular subset of players who are extremely keen on Mahjong. You can see them lounge around the Doman Mahjong Parlour in the Gold Saucer most of the time.

Though i suppose European or US servers don't really get that many regulars, simply because Mahjong itself is less popular there.

There is a Discord group for Light EU servers. And even without it, it is pretty easy to find people there.

As a Texan, I can attest to my disinterest after trying to learn Mahjong. I've enjoyed gin and rummy and VC (i really miss playing this one) and spades and tons of others. One of my faves of all time is dominoes (or rather the more entertaining style of play.... Bones, which isn't quite so .... calm). But Mahjong just left me confused. I know I'm missing something that's preventing it from "just clicking" with me. But until that happens, my interest level is low for this one.

In Zodiark our gold saucer is crowded with people, There is small group that plays Mahjong.
