noob help - chocobo mount

Been searching the internets, but there seems to be alot of outdated info.

I've unlocked the airships and can travel between major cities, aside from having no clue what to do now, I don't have a mount yet. Where do I get one? And what the heck is a Free Company / Grand Company? (You get a mount after joining a GC still?)..

I'm out there on the "lodestone" looking for new player info but it seems to be buggy - just closes the window when I say I'm on Windows/PC in the beginner's guide.. lol..

When you're doing the main story, eventually they'll have you pick a Grand Company, after that, the GC you picked will have a quest called My Little Chocobo, and doing that will unlock mounts.

GC = guild ?
also, main story quests are the ones with the "eclipse effect" around them? or are they the ones with + signs on them?

The quests with the + sign unlock something. The quests with the meteor symbol are Main Story quests.

And Free Companies are the guilds in this game, GCs are more like a faction you choose.

More questions if you don't mind?
I can't seem to figure out travel in this game. I unlock chocobo paths all over by talking to the dude in each little area, but I can only ride back to Gridania? Shouldn't these connect to each other?

I also attune to crystals all over but yet can't seem to travel to them from Gridania and clicking on them offers no option to travel anywhere, except "set favorite", "set free location".. no travel options... so confusing..

I can't really help you with the Chocobo porters, I never really used them.

The aetherytes in the main city let you travel to the mini aetherytes all over the city after you attuned to them. To teleport to one of the aetherytes you unlocked in the open world you have to use the teleport menu.

The chocobo porter network is really limited. Once you get a mount, it's faster to ride where you want to go manually.

Set your three favourite destinations to the capitals, from there you can get a porter to most places in that region. Use your return point for your current questing zone.

level 28 now, been in 3 instances with the story quest line.. still no mount :(

That should be the quest, location will differ depending on you're grand company

nice walkthru, thanks.. I don't have a GC yet..
I think what is happening, is they have buffed XP gain so much that my character level is well ahead of the story quest level.. based on my character level it "feels" like I should have a mount lol..

anyway .. think I'm getting close, I'm on "Life materia and everything", a level 19 quest

oh yeah, that's true, i was expecting the full slogg. Which would have been fine though. Buffs XP upto lvl 60, which rules. Those are the thanalan missions, yep defs shouldn't be too far off.

I think the quest for GC are around 20-22 (main quest), once you have picked a faction. Go to the city for that faction and pick up the quest for mount. However, you do need to buy the license to use mounts and that's why you'll need faction currency.

It can be obtained through random dungeon or levequests. You'll need 200 currency for the license i believe. I suggest doing the levequests.

I forgot to mention that FATEs also gives you faction currency.
