This link will tell you everything you need to know.
But you can buy level boost which in turn increases your dmg due to higher level.
I once had the misfortune to heal a Cutter's Cry run with a new bard and a lancer wearing level 1 bikini gear in their chest and pants slots...
It wasn't pleasant.
I had to leave the lancer on the floor for the final boss because they wouldn't avoid the aoe, even though it was explained, and they died in a single hit from it.
Also, the tank didn't avoid it either...
The bard at least took advice and got better...
I nearly ran out of mp on the worm boss with the raises and everything.
Hadn't noticed the level 1 gear at that point.
That sounds like hell. Who knew Cutter's Cry Savage was a thing. I hope you got all 3 comms from that. Poor Lancet, still not doing anything to disprove the stereotype.
Also you said "Lancer" and not "Dragoon" and I'm guessing that was on purpose, so that's pretty bad too.
He was wearing gatherer gear. All gatherer gear, except for an under-level axe. Obviously, I asked the pressing question of whyyyyyyyyyyy. His response? Didn't have tank gear.
He pulls the first mob. I wait until he's as long on health as he can get before reaching the point that he'll die before I finish my cast. Cast one cure, heals him for more than his max health and rips aggro off him. After waiting as long as I could before doing anything. Literally my first spell in the dungeon.
Needless to say, I bailed as soon as I could. My patience can be stretched pretty far, but that was well beyond my limit.
