The Main Story of 2.0 is God Awful

No spoilers here, though there's nothing to spoil since the game is just so incredibly predictable that you won't be shocked by anything. I've played up to the end of 2.0, and I'm dreading continuing through to 2.5.

The game play is pretty nice, and I love the crafting system, but the first story of this game is so bloody bad! Fetch quests, banal cutscenes and some of the worst writing for an MMO I've ever seen made me just groan in pain and misery. You'd think you could avoid it and just play the fun stuff, but NOPE! It's all gated behind the main story. For each character you make. And it's 80 hours long. It's just terrible design.

Worse still, people will go on and on about how great the first expansion is, but must have amnesia of the LITERALLY ONE HUNDRED ADDITIONAL QUESTS POST MAIN STORY you need to complete before you get to it! So anywhere form 100 to 150 hours of some of the worst, most trite story content before you're allowed to touch the content of the first expansion: And you read that right, you can't even PLAY the expansion and its content without finishing all of the main story before it!

What makes this story ♥♥♥♥ are the characters. This game is not a Final Fantasy game. Final Fantasy is about the characters, how you get to know them, their strengths, their weaknesses, their hopes and dreams. All they do in this game is make long speeches about how things will turn out better and we'll conquer the enemy! They're paper thin, I don't care about any of them, and I can't even remember their names because they're so worthless. There's only 1 useful character, and they only show up after 3/4 of the main story is over. THEYRE THE ONLY CHARACTER THAT DOES SOMETHING. Oh and your character's a mute, but agrees with everyone, no matter how retarded.

The fans are the worst, you can't say what I'm saying to them or you're nuked from orbit. I can't post this on reddit because no one will see it after it's been downvoted into the stone age. All they say is that it gets better in the first expansion. Or they like to talk about how it was worse before, like it makes this entire miserable experience better! Yes 1.0 was gobshite, but it doesn't mean you have to accept 10th grade creative writing! Seriously it's so bad. To quote someone with sense: "The best part about the ARR arc is that it does finally end."

The worst part of this rant is that I want to actually play the game; BUT THE STORY IS IN THE WAY. I can't not play it (not true, I can pay $11 to skip it; most other MMOs charge for additional content, but this MMO lets you pay to SKIP IT... WTF). It drives me bonkers how they could put such a massive, massive flaw in this otherwise great game!

Roughly 13% of the quests will be removed in this revamp, which may not seem like a lot. In addition to this, however, we’ve greatly reduced the number of steps featured in many quests (such as going to a specified location, or talking to certain NPCs several times), making the story experience much smoother.

The amount of EXP gained during the main scenario will be increased so that you won’t have to do side quests in order to progress. We plan on eventually applying this change to quests in Heavensward and beyond".

I'm tempted to make a new character when it happens. I have one character, a Lalafel. Love the character, don't mind the short height. But I think I need a new one to just fully experience all of the skins this game has. You can lose details on outfits designed for character races of various proportions.

The story is good in ESO and from what I always heard, WoW. Some people dont play MMORPGs to kill time but to enjoy every aspect.

Sure, if you have somebody who only knows about MMORPGs, he will like the Story here a lot, since in Relation to other MMORPGs it is pretty good. But on the Grand-Scale it doesn't hold much ground against anything else out there in terms of (J)RPGs.

This is also the Reason why it is often Advertised with "18 Millionen Registered Users", while in Fact they just barely broke the 1 Million Subscriber Mark on Shadowbringers across all Platforms. So take a guess how many people might just left because of the chore while still being in Trial...

Correction, as of today it's 2 million. we also were over 2 million players active current players during heavens Ward and up and you can actually check this with the live letter about around the time right after the last patch for heaven's Ward and you'll see live on camera yoshi-p state are they have over 2 million concurrent active subscribers right now playing the game that means logging that doesn't mean account created that doesn't mean any of that that means logging in. And it's cross play. So moot point for you huh lmao.

this isn't ESO where you buy on PC and then you buy on PS4 and you come to find out you can't even play your same f****** character.

lastly it is a limitation of the engine as yoshi-p himself as stated on camera several thousand times and including in the most recent live letter hence why they have dropped PS3 support.

if you actually kept up on the game or anything you would actually know you would actually know that they are actually creating a new engine for the game.

it's the same engine that's going to be used to make the next new MMO and or single-player game that Yoshi p is working on for square enix.

I think sometimes people sit back and still think about 1.0 and then see 2.0 and think it's the same exact people who did 1.0 I think they're going to screw it up and keep it going for when it's a completely different team.

on top of that I think it's a whole jealousy thing with most people they hate to see it when something fails and then comes back even better than it ever was before and still continues to succeed today we keep getting growing numbers and players all the time.

You know what I did a test I loaded up final fantasy 10 remastered version for steam on PC and went to look at the graphics just running around and I noticed that Titus his hands his fingers are fused together on top of that the walking animation is stilted and extremely jilted really bad camera angles are the absolute worst seeing as how you can barely move the camera unless you're in a giant open area anyway I am the only thing that looks good in the game honestly is the cutscenes everything else looks basic as f***. The fire and ice spells look really really weird and don't look right at all.

what I like about 10 is whenever you look at Titus from a certain distance it looks like he has beanie black little eyes and there's nothing you can do to move the camera anymore forward to fix it up with this block looking hair and ugly looking clothes.

and when I say cutscenes I mean the actual good cutscenes. Fully rendered CGI cutscenes.

but when you compare both CGI cut scenes from final fantasy XIV to final fantasy 10 final fantasy XIV looks a hell of a lot better because it is a lot better.

P.s. off topic, I still have my first copy I ordered for ps2 and my version says square soft, not square enix.

P.s.s FF x original looks worse than the remaster we got a few years ago. Or did you forget they had to re master x to get it to look good?

Exactly my point. If i want to "Read" a story, while dismissing anything else i read a book.

For a Visual Medium in 2020 this is not acceptable though. Still the Unvoiced Dialog is only a part of the bigger picture and why the FFXIV Story is not good or interesting.

Oh so we're onto the single player vs MMORPG debate.

here I'll end the debate for you they're both different mediums one is one that is consistent and keeps going the other is done after a certain. And stop usually getting it part 2 or a part 3.

so no you can't compare one game say Grand theft Auto v that took 500 million dollars to make compared to final fantasy XIV the MMORPG which took 100 million to make maybe less.

I'll tell you this I'm still playing final fantasy XIV over any single player game still to this day.

no single player game has brought me years upon years especially six years worth of good content that would keep me in game and keep me playing new content update of content at that.

Let me add this edit, 2 million are playing currently.

No single player game gets those numbers after 6 years.
