FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

Wtf is with the levelling in this game??
Been playing for a few days for hours on end doing MSQ and all daily roulettes, got 5 levels from 50-54, and i gotta get 70/80, in BDO which people say is more grindy i can reach the softcap level of 61 from lvl 1 in a few solid days of grinding and carry on doing what i find fun, because who in their right mind enjoys levelling in games(Unless you have no brain), i hear all these ffxiv sweats say its not slow because they played some game decades ago that took years(exaggeration) to level.

Guild wars 2 for exampl, levelling was slow as ♥♥♥♥ but atleast you got to farm tomes of knowledge on your main toons to level alts, why do i have to grind for weeks(more if you have a life) on end to experience the content everyone says is so amazing when i have to slog through all this low level ♥♥♥♥, sure the quests and story are interesting and can keep me occupied but boy am i tired of repeating all these ♥♥♥♥ low level dungeons and trials that lock my skills away so they're not even fun doing and i have no sense of even getting stronger as a character(so much for an rpg when i always just feel weak), all just so i can get a tiny slither of xp.

But wait there's more!, this is only while im still playing through MSQ, how ♥♥♥♥ing slow and boring is it going to be to level a fresh alt? like are you kidding me? to be honest i wouldnt be too mad if sync didnt take my skills away it wouldnt be that bad grinding low level ♥♥♥♥ because atleast you'll have new skills to play with, but nope, they take them away because woo that is what fun is about, oh but wait you can just Q your highest level dungeon? what so i can wait 20-30 mins? lmfao, or maybe 40+ mins off peak? because of the dumb role trinity ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t and nobody wants to play healer and tank because they get flamed if they ♥♥♥♥ up, why when you can just sit and spam skills as dps and not be bothered.

This game is a complete joke for new players and is why this game will die, who tf wants to play through this boring ♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ for weeks just to get to the good stuff? im currently using the 8 days of free game time to try get some levels and experience the content but at this rate i am probably not going to resub and put this game in the trash, probably the most new player un-friendly game i have played.

EDIT:
Because people seem to either not read or misunderstand, i don't hate levelling nor i dislike grinding, every game i play is a grindfest pretty much, this is MY personal opinion, i'm venting because im bored and not exactly looking for a resolution unless there's any tips on quick levelling for my future characters, in MY opinion i don't think being forced to do story and being timegated by dungeons especially when DPS Qs can take up to an hour for specific dungeons is a fun way to play, so for me it seems like a long time because i don't enjoy the way i have to level, the only reason im mentioning BDO and GW2 is because thats the other main MMOs i spent many hours on, im not comparing the games im only comparing the leveling experience that i had, BDO for the freedom it gives you and GW2 for the alternative ways of levelling aka tomes of knowledge, i'm just wondering why something that calls itself an MMORPG nowadays has such a lack of freedom, i just feel like im playing a linear singleplayer game that is made up of fetch quests and talking to NPCs, theres no skill builds, no interesting gear builds every person that plays a class plays the EXACT same, there's no difference, because of sync taking away skills, everyone is the EXACT same, want to get anywhere you HAVE to do these quests and Q for dungeons nobody wants to do with 40 min DPS Q times, but obviously this might just not be the game for me and there's people who enjoy playing like this but since im more of a new generation gamer im too used to modern mechanics and most modern MMOs and other games being sandboxy of sorts.

I agree with you that this mmo is super unfriendly to new players, but I also want to stress that the later game is pretty dam solid. The dungeons and raids are great. After seeing the dumbing down of wow over the years, I love how I actually have 3 bars of abilities and they are all useful in some manner.

You might want to look in to the concept of paragraphs.

Experience gained is dependent on the level of the content that you do, which in turn is dependent on how far you've gotten on the MSQ.

And there really is no need to power-grind really until you get to Level 80 on atleast one class. The MSQ itself gives enough XP to take you all the way through on that class, and partially for a side-class. Only grind dungeons if you're in dearth of equipment.

So do your daily roulettes and then just get along with the MSQ as much as possible, really.

@Kayneth, The only reason you can get level 80 following MSQ is because its filled with so much pointless ♥♥♥♥ and makes you go through the crap parts of the game before getting to the good expansions.

Fun Fact: Most of those filler quests actually give literally 0 XP, They're what is called 'post-expansion content' and exist at the end of every expansion. The current one has been getting them too.
The idea is that at the time, everyone is already at the level cap, so they didn't need any more XP via the MSQ because you needed to be at the then level cap to even do those quests.

But yeah. Best to do the roulettes and slog through the MSQ as much as possible.
Always unlock the sidequests for the dungeons and raids, btw. Those are a great way to both level and get many useful resources.

I played GW2 for alittle over 4 years, I only had to run the game through once. Just once. Even then leveling there was so easy, I can't possibly relate to you saying it's slow. Perhaps the years dulled my experience but imo it was far better than this. You didn't have to be gated by dungeons/trials that no one plays and sit in long ass queues. You could do whatever you wanted to level be it pvp, wvw etc. The game didn't force your hand to do anything, just made you do whatever you wanted.

Currently in FFXIV I'm at lv37, I'm 12 levels above my MSQ. Everything feels so slow and I just want death lmao...they say the game gets better at 50 but bruh. As far as I know you can have all classes on one character but you're leveling them from scratch. The dungeons etc you unlock are still there kinda.

Like I honestly don't know. I did a couple of side quests in Gridania cause I was having alot of fun during my first 2 days but it looks like I made a big oopsie.

I'm probably still baised towards it since I was pampered by GW2 and this feels like it puts shackles on me. So yes. I feel you. Leveling is slow in this game, even when you rush it....it's meant to be enjoyed somehow...but I get bored of reading text and my brain tends to shut down cause none of the MSQ is voiced and when it is it's cringey af.

Hmm maybe GW2 wasnt as slow on my first playthrough as i remember because i was able to level like 7 more toons with just tomes, which is a feature i really like as i can try a lot of classes without spending weeks upon weeks levelling boring stuff i've done.

FFXIV does get better past lvl 50 and the story improves once you get into the expansions, i think im about close to finishing heavensward and its pretty interesting, i will probably work my way to lvl 80 but i honestly dont see how im going to level an alt to the same level without MSQ, i will for sure lose my sanity, and that's just level, doesnt include the gear grind, i'm gonna stick with it till atleast level 70.

Honestly it's other mechanics that really make me not enjoy it, the main factor is when you're backtracking your skills go down the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and you are forced to use worse skills or incomplete combos, stat syncing is fine whatever but gimping even my skills is a tad far and the only way you feel you are getting more powerful is if you go around killing low level mobs in open world.

Since you're saying this I'm guessing it's safe to assume you've never touched a korean grindfest mmo.

I'm sorry you discover this game too late, the golden age of this game was 7 years ago, when everything was fresh and when people were actively making friends & discovering Eorzea together, & especially when the game has not been plagued by third party application craps like ACT & damage meters & website like fflog which polarizing the playerbase even more. Now that the game playerbase has become extremely polarized, your best bet is to find some casual FC with talkative & friendly people to help you to pass the boring time at low level, at least until you reach end-game contents.

Good joke. Levelling is easy AF in this game. Also, why the hell do you need to reach 80 as fast as posible? You won't reach an expansion any faster just by levelling up

Tbh I never needed to level an alt on gw2 again for years. The only reason why I'm not playing GW2 rn is because I've done everything I wanted to, crafted all the legendaries I wanted, fashion game was on point. I'll never quit that game, i'll keep returning to it because I've invested so much time into it.

My friend says story gets better at 50.
I share the same dismay at the skills being sync'd it's kinda unintuitive tbh....I heard so many good things about the game but so far it's just ok. Chat is so quiet, you don't see people derping in map chat like you would on GW2 LA. EU is separated into weird data centers and some servers have 'unofficial' language etc....my friend and I joined moogle cause his friend was on moogle but lo and behold....french in chat everytime I see it. Nothing feels more alienating.

I can nitpick but eh...I'll see how it goes. As for leveling alts it seems that fates and roulette is your best option along with leves? which is funny considering queue times.

This is especially funny since each new expansion brings new players.

Ah yes, no more "suck my ♥♥♥♥" "hey send nudes, ladies" in random chats in the field, with people dancing naked randomly across it. Totes awful.

BDO is a complete joke, are you serious?

Do I .....do I need to do the BDO thing again.

Somebody(many, many people) made videos on BDO and even the positive videos paints it negatively.

Case in point why I'll never play BDO again or support that garbage.

Please stop bringing garbage into these threads.

Once you have one class at a higher level, you get a 100% bonus to XP earned up to 70 (at 70 it goes down to 50%, it's called armory bonus, and it affects any class lower level than your highest)

with that bonus it's not hard to get from 1 to 50 getting at least one level up per dungeon, especially if you have rested XP.

you're waiting 20-30 minutes for a dungeon? Have you tried playing a tank or healer? Or being on a more popular server, queueing for a more popular dungeon etc. (doesn't have to be a low level one, maybe the one one step down is popular (for example, very few people queue for Aurum vale)

The reason there are so many DPS players has more to do with the MUCH higher number of DPS jobs in the game, though some of it is because people aren't confident tanking/healing (even then, up to 60 I've had absolutely no problem healing in dungeons, even if I ♥♥♥♥ up it's all fine, let's try again, never had anyone flame me for it)
