First of all, I don't have this problem and I haven't heard anyone else have it recently which means the problem is most likely on your side.
If you haven't fixed it by now, you should do the usual check:
- Check for windows updates (assuming you have windows 10, even if my PC isn't downloading an update, if an update is waiting to be downloaded my internet goes to ♥♥♥♥).
- Reboot PC and your internet router
If this doesn't solve the problem you should look into opening ports.
Here is where I know NOTHING about. But there has been games where me and my gaming partner which I live with has had problems with connecting to certain games. Smite is one, GW2 is another. In both those cases we had to open up ports to fix the issue.
Alternatively, we also called our ISP for our issue with GW2. and if you keep loosing connection to the XIV server you might need to do it also.
But do contact customer support, we did it with GW2 and had to run all sorts of tests for them so they could locate the problem.
iirc there was a maint yesterday? no? If that's the case that might be the reason you lost connection also.
And yes, if it's an problem with the ISP or ports it can only affect the one game.
This is for next time ^_^
Go to this website arrstatus.com
Find your server, then your server's IP address [in Display Mode on the webpage, select IP address]
The next time you have this problem, open a Command Prompt window [WINdows + R, enter 'CMD' then hit ENTER], enter PING -T <server IP address> then ENTER.
That IP address is actually the gateway address for your server [so if you can't reach it, you can't log in/etc] not the actual server's IP but if your connection to the gateway is flaky, your connection to the server will be too [the gateway is between you and the server].
You can make a small batch file on your desktop
Mine has
ping -t 124.150.157.29
