Cannot change to Bard!
I just hit level 30 as an archer on my trial account.

I have completed the level 30 class quest, but still cannot change jobs to Bard?

What am I missing? Do I need to sub to do this and buy the game?

I am going to buy it all, as it's terrific!

You need to clear the main story quest Sylph Management to change to a job.

Most (not all) jobs also require two specific classes at certain levels. For Bard: Archer 30, Pugilist 15.

The second classes are no longer necessary since Stormblood.

Open up your inventory (I) and search for a green stone item. You will understand what I'm saying when you find it. Equip it and your Bard class will be active.

as he said, u have to complete the specific main scenario quest(MSQ) in order to get a jobclass, and that goes for every single "job" exept for 5 other jobs but those require expansion packs and higher lvl and further progress in MSQ

Now this is for HW and SB tho but can still be good to point it out, for the HW jobs such as dark knight, astrologer and machinist, u have to finish the MSQ "coming to ishgard" which is for lvl 50+ and very far in the story chain, for the SB jobs red mage and samurai, u still have to reach lvl 50 and finish "The Ultimate Weapon" MSQ instead which require less time doing MSQ.

Technically, all Jobs require Sylph-Management, since you need to complete that to advance the plot enough to complete The Ultimate Weapon, which itself needs to be cleared to eventually reach Coming to Ishgard.

There are 2 level 30 quests for each class. The first completes the Archer subplot, the second takes you to your Bard trainer. Did you complete the second or the first?

Armory Chest, not inventory.
Or open char and click on the left lowest empty slot.
If you did the quest for the job.

Thanks for the replies.

Just bought the complete pack and been experimenting with other classes.

I'll check my MSQ progress and report back.

Once I've unlocked the expansion classes, can I make them from level 1 in the char creation screen?

Thanks all!

No, you can't make a new character as the Heavensward or Stormblood jobs. You swap your current character to them. You can level every job on one character.

The good news is, Dark Knight, Astrologian and Machinist start at level 30. Red Mage and Samurai start at 50.

You don't need Ultimate Weapon quest to unlock Samurai or Red Mage.

I do not have the crystal yet, so does that mean I haven't progressed farther enough in the main story?

I haven't even changed class yet as I have acquired no other items lol...

Thanks for all your help

yes, u have to progress more then, something at like the lvl 20 main story quest which was called Sylph Management.
Sure its easy to hit lvl 30 without doing main story but alot of content are locked behind story quests aswell, such as new dungeons, trials, raids well and some classes...

u do need to complete it..

and this is taken from the ff14 site:
Requirements and Unlock
Requires the expansion Stormblood
Complete the quest Taking the Red (red mage) or Complete the quest The Way of the Samurai (samurai)
Complete the Main Scenario Quests, The Ultimate Weapon

Do u really think it was just to buy stormblood and fast lvl trough palace of the dead once unlocked and rush to 50 without bothering to do more MSQ after PotD just to choose them?
