FINAL FANTASY XIV Online
How to change directory of game
So when I installed the game using the launcher using steam, it never gave me an option to choose a specific directory. It always installs to my C: drive. I do have my steam library folder on my other drive which I want it on, I did install the actual launcher for the game on the drive which I want it on, yet it still installs to my C: drive. I have tried the launcher on the actual XIV website and it has asked me for which drive to use it on, but it wont let me install it on that launcher for some reason, can someone help me out here? Thank you.

Sure it looks like the game data is there, but thats probably because the FFXIV launcher decided to move it there incrementally during the install process. its not that i didnt believe you, its just that i dont think you understand the underlying issue people are facing. Read the entire thread and you will understand better. This isnt really about getting your game data to the D:/ drive. its about not having enough space on C:/ . because this is where the launcher initially downloads the game data too in increments, only later does it move it to where you have specified from steam, in your case D:/ the issue is, is that people dont have enough space in C:/ even though they intend to use D:/ it causes a problem, because if u dont have the space on C:/ you can not even install the game entirely. Im sure you will understand :)
NO
all i did is giving steam a frigging new install path where all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ games go, in like look
https://gyazo.com/7b1c13e77294dac288b29ba32f9fec60
literarly ALL games are there. all i did is giving steam a new path in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ settings and deleted the original path aka REMOVING the path to drive C

thats simply it and you can DO THAT easily in the settings.
srsly you trigger me a lot do you know that xD?
but to show you whats in my documents and proving you that aswell that it is NOT in my dokuments and that only the bootfiles and settings are in there like char infos when you made some for fantasia and retainer etc. and the settings for your characters aka hotbar etc. (i have 2 characters, so you see 2 folders there) here MORE PROOF
DOES THIS LOOK LIKE A FULL GAME TO YOU?
https://gyazo.com/4958a1f3e01b7f623da4b28a389aa7bc

and thats the ONLY thing which FF14 has in my documents on C drive NOTHING else >_>.
so i say it AGAIN.
peoples just love the complicated way.

Sorry, i tried explaining it to you as simply as posisble. if you cant understand what the actual problem was by now, than you just wont get it. Try reading again carefully what the real problem is :) I tried to help you understand, im not upset here. i just wanted to help people. so yea. im done here.

i understand very well.
you literarly wrote "no, you can not go into the steam settings and do it how you did it chiro"

i literarly PROVEN to you that when you download a game can you literarly click in the window where it tells you how big the game is, how long it needs to download etc. on the bottom the path ... and you can LITERARLY EASILY!!! create a NEW path to install it there ... and thats ALL what is needed.

but ok ... continue to refuse to believe me x.x i literarly proven to you that my FF14 is NOT on drive C and has only the config files and boot config. on drive C.

heck you could even give steam the new path in the same way, then copy and paste the entire game where the launcher got downloaded and the launcher of the game wouldnt even care -_-. it just wants the game to where it got initially downloaded to.

Again you are wrong, try reinstalling the game, and see what happens. The launcher doesnt care about what you want or what path you set. It always downloads incrementally to C:/ first. Im sorry you lack comprehension skills buddy! try again. You dont actually help people by just stating something so obvious that everyone already tried. And by continuing to troll me and this topic you are just revealing how much of a prick you are.

i just give up on you. i proven it to you. if you want to stay stubborn, fine. ignore the proof.

The launcher installs the game where the launcher is.

Very easy to install it on any storage media from D:-Z:

If you're referring to temp files, that's a Windows thing, easily changed to another drive and your fault for not knowing how simple it is to change.

i just realized after looking on one of my screenshots that even the bootconfig and char settings/hotbar settings are aswell on drive D o_o ... so not even THOSE are on C drive. i honestly thought those would´ve been on drive C.

but again, the launcher cares about the directory into which it got downloaded. it then directly moves those files aswell directly into that folder. there is no temp storage on the main drive because the game comes literarly in parts/patches. you notice that when the download stops for short. the launcher dosnt putts the FULL 70GB onto drive C just to move it afterwards to its initial path.

and srsly peoples which have their operating system drive filled to the brim should not wonder why their system is slow. the OS drive should always be seperated from all the other junk. but thats a different topic =w=

For the absolute morons in this thread, the installer downloads all patch data to your "C:/Users/[username]/Documents/My Games/ FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn" folder before applying them to the install directory you specified. Click the gear icon in the launcher, then click Display on System Information, and the first line will show you this temporary folder. I'm working on a fork of XIVLauncher which will let you specify temp directories. Squeenix's infrastructure is complete garbage, and their interfaces are antediluvian in design. Can't believe they charge $15 per month for architecture from the 90's.
THATS HOW YOU CAN CHANGE DIRECTORY:
Copy updater folder from C:\Users\%usermane%\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn to new location.
Delete original folder from "My games"
In menu start input CMD and open as administrator

Copy this and paste into CMD window

mklink /d "C:\Users\%usermane%\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn" "Your_New_location"

press Enter

Dont forget change %username% to your system user

As example how it looks for me:
mklink /d "C:\Users\Kladeos\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn" "D:\games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn"

Now you can open launcher from steam, game will be download and install to new location
this is how i do it.
first cut/copy the game folder from common folder D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common

then i move it to C:\STM\steamapps\common (create a folder if you don't have, you should able to it in Setting>storage>add drive)

after that i move/cut appmanifest_39210 file to the C:\STM\steamapps (you should check what is your appmanifest for FFXIV)

then restart the Steam. it should work.

Sorry for my broken English
Seeking some sage wisdom before I pull my hair out or a trigger.

Ive moved my FF14 copy from my C: drive to my Z: drive successfully by reading suggestions on this board. I made copies of the game, uninstalled from Steam, reinstalled the launcher to the new location, (here is where i falsely thought things were fine), I updated XIVlauncher's directory to the new path and the game booted perfectly. I thought everything was fine and i did nothing wrong.

But I wanted to make sure, so I tried booting the game from Steam and its trying to redownload the game to places unknown. I checked the system information on the vanilla launcher and it does in fact see the new install folder in Z:, so i have no idea why its trying to download again.

Im mostly concerned about my character data/UI stuff from being erased if I let this download play out, otherwise ill waste my time and bite the bullet. Not sure what to do, I hate how annoying SE has made this.

i do believe while in the char select screen you can upload all your skill bars macro's ect too FF14 servers https://gyazo.com/878b9258b695a0b507758a6f4f9fd401 no idea if it works on steam version.

steam version is way too dicky to use. i am glad i use normal version haha. by default your data should be stored here.
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn can back that up is all else fails
