How to change directory of game
So when I installed the game using the launcher using steam, it never gave me an option to choose a specific directory. It always installs to my C: drive. I do have my steam library folder on my other drive which I want it on, I did install the actual launcher for the game on the drive which I want it on, yet it still installs to my C: drive. I have tried the launcher on the actual XIV website and it has asked me for which drive to use it on, but it wont let me install it on that launcher for some reason, can someone help me out here? Thank you.

A quick update, I noticed that the files are actually downloaded to the My Games folder in my Documents folder, is there a way to change that in any way?

The files in the "my games" folder should just be the settings and what custom UI setup you have, those you can't change the location of, even installing it on a different drive will still put those folders on the drive that Windows is installed on.
Not sure why you can't make steam install it on a different steam library folder though.
edit: try right clicking FFXIV in steam, click "Properties", then go to the "Local Files" tab, and select "Move Install Folder".

No Idea what you are looking at. In my local Files there is no option to move install folder

Aye, seems like FFXIV might not have that option, I dont own the game on steam so I just told the way to do it normally.
It is probably for the best, I am fairly certain moving the game like that with steam would downgrade it to an older version, which is why its not an option.

I have the same problem. The "Move install folder" is not there for FFXIV. I tried it on every other game and the option is there. But not for FFXIV online

You need to use a program called steam mover if you dont want to break the steam play button and steam integration like overlay.

Otherwise just move the games files to a different drive on your PC, FFXIV does not care where it is on your PC after installation, You could run FFXIV off of a jump drive assuming the drive was big enough. all you would need to do is put a shortcut for the launcher on your desktop from whereever you moved the files to.

My problem is that the drive it is trying to install on doesnt have enough space and there is no way to move it.

If you are downloading it for the first time, then it should ask which library to download on, by default there is only one, you have to make Steam create a library on the other drive.

If you are moving it after its downloaded... thats a bit tougher, as FFXIV doesnt seem to support Steam's own game moving feature.

Steam only control about 50mb of game launcher, everything that FF14 launcher download is managed only by launcher, and you can safely move these files manually. Just move the "game" folder from inside of "FINAL FANTASY XIV Online" anywhere else, uninstall the game, install it where you want it, and move the "game" folder into it. This method also allow to skip redownloading the client when you upgrade from trial.

You have to be over looking a button during install attempts or there must be something different with the steam launcher then because on standard windows client install I was able to decide exactly where I wanted FFXIV to be when I reinstalled it

UP, need help too. The game just WANT to install in MyGames folder in C: drive.. I only have 1Go space, that's not enough for the entire game. After one hour, it stops downloading by itself without reasons.
Please Square, a simple button 'choice location', that's not hard !

I have this same problem.
My problem: My SSD C: drive does not have enough space to install FFXIV and I would like for the launcher to install the updates on E: drive (external hard disc).
My steam library is already located on E: and the Steam FFXIV game is installed there.
I tried dragging the C: folder in /my games to the E: drive.
I tried making a shortcut to the ffxivboot.exe
I tried downloading the windows version that had an amazing little drop-drown where I could choose E: drive for installation. But lo and behold I of course can't log in since my account is bound by steam. :')

Did ANYONE find a solution?
