Final Fantasy 14 Steam or Square Enix Website Purchase

So I've been considering buying this game for a while now and with the sales going on now seems to be the time. The complete edition is cheaper on the square enix website but I found something that kind of gave me pause... something about Square Enix downloads becoming unavailable after 30 days? Granted all the information I found was from year old forum posts but the idiocy of how that policy works is making me weary.

So my question is, if I buy the game on the square enix website if I for whatever reason get a new computer or need to redownload it a month later am I going to lose it? Or is this a dated policy that has since been changed as well as some general recommendations of whether you think buying on their site or here on steam is better.

If you buy it here, at steam, it means you can pay your monthly subscription here too. But you will be stuck here, if you want to buy future xpacks, you will have to do it here. Since I like Steam, I would recomend you buy it here. Remember, if you buy the game elsewhere, you won't be able to use the key here.

If you buy the game and register it to an account you can download it every day if you want, there is no limit. You will get 30 free days and after they run out you have to buy gametime. As Douglas said if you buy the game on Steam you will have to buy all extensions also on steam. If you buy it on the SQUARE ENIX store you need to buy the extensions there. As they changed the Store site a year or two ago, people whou bought final fantasy 7 before couldnt download the game anymore. They had to contact the support to get a download link if i remeber correct. Had nothing to do with FF XIV. Hope that helped you :)

I just bought a basic version of FFXIV here on steam en got the complete collector edition on square enix website for 32 euro? I registered the code there, and now i launched the launcher through steam and its downloading the patches right now, so i can play with steam but i got the game at square enix website!

Yes you can use the Steam overlay when you purchased the square store version
