Help picking my mage class (Free trial)
So i found out you can now play for free for a bit and i wanted to try this game but after picking my race and stuff i got to classes and i'm not sure what one is for me.
I know i want magic but i'm a big fan of DPS not a huge fan of DOT magic i will use it if need be but most of the time i just blast my enemies next i do like healing magic but as odd as it sounds i'm the otherway around when it comes to healing i like healing over time spells HOT spells i guess you could call then :)

Hi. Go for Thaumaturge(Blackmage) for Mage DPS.
The Arcanist is Dot heavy.

For Healing... Not so sure... Conjurer(Whitemage) can use Hots, but...

Edit: Just try any Class you want. A Class change takes like 2 Seconds... As soon as your starting Class hits Level 10 and you do your second Guild Quest the game will tell you that you can go and be what ever you want^^

Thaumaturge for burst DPS and Conjurer for HoTs.

Scholar, the healer you get from leveling Arcanist, is more shield-based healing. And Summoner, the DPS you get from Arcanist, is very DoT- heavy.

If you wind up getting the full game, definitely try out Red Mage, which you get after levelling one class to 50. It's also a solid DPS magic class with a few support skills thrown in.

Thaumaturge (Black Mage) does use a DoT for a fair portion of its damage, but it's primarily about burst damage. Red Mage, unlocked at Level 50 with the expansion, has no DoTs, but is more of a support/utility job than the other two mages.
As for HoT healers, your options are Conjurer (White Mage), and Astrologian, unlocked when entering the first expansion.
