Black screen
Yet another stupid problem caused by this game >.>
I open up steam and ff14, black screen upon launcher. spent next 30-40mins fixing it, no avail
RE-INSTALL EVERYTHING the launcher works, it then spend next 2hours installing patch files, gets to 99% unable to install patch files
Sigh... why is this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game nothing but problems.
I've looked online and tried things that people have suggested but no use.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

I got the black launcher problem yesterday. The solution that worked for me was:

1. Open Internet Explorer (SPECIFICALLY Internet Explorer, not Chrome or Firefox)
2. Select Internet Options
3. Under "Advance" check "Allow software to run or install even if signature is invalid"

There are huge connection issues over alls ervers. They are getting DDOS´D again. that can be a problem, check the lLodestone page for updates

All FF14 related sites as well as the game itself is under a DDoS attack. The loadstone will most likly not load because of it. After restarting the game 2 times I got this message on the launcher:

We are currently experiencing technical difficulties due to a DDoS attack.
Players may experience the following issues as a result.

We are looking into the way attacks are being made and taking countermeasures. More information will be provided as the situation develops.

Game is under DDoS attack as others have said. Main forums, launcher, and lodestone don't work right now. Check out the FFXIV Reddit for additional details(more ppl there than here on Steam).

I went into IE and followed the steps you said, allowing software to run etc. suprisingly about 1/5 of the screen was no longer black, the bottom toolbar where it says Account..config.. etc, now it's full on black again. And yeah I can't even access the Square enix website letalone mogstation.

I hope they manage to fix the servers + black screen launcher problems soon though

Thanks for posting that info article here though, Makes alot of sence now, since i've never had problems with the launcher before now :o

Just be patient, its not SEs fault, noone can be really safe from ddos.

i had the same i fixed it with this


go to this file FFXIV_Boot.cfg
and change the browser Type to 2


just noticed that you have reinstalled no idea what to do then :s
