Heavensward felt better than Stormblood
Maybe it's because with Eureka all I can look forward to in the relic side of the story is more fate grind.
Maybe because the raids are just musically unimpressive, with small arenas and very little alterations from other FF games.
Maybe because the last patch was just politics squared as far as the story goes T_T

Anyone else feels the same way?

Omni-70 here, been playing since ARR. I agree completely. SB has made me less-excited to play the game than ever before, and the following is just my persona opinion.

I think the main issue is mostly in that HW brought so many innovative changes to story, and gameplay that just made it feel like a direct upgrade to it's predecessor in nearly every way.

We had the addition of three amazing classes, one for each of the roles.
We had the addition of voiced cutscenes, which felt like a dramatic improvement in immersion.
We had the addition of more skills to flesh out classes and further push their unique identities, while still maintaining a great balance that made every class viable in some aspect.
We had the addition of an intriguing story that was told well-enough, and respectably fleshed out enough to allow development where it needed it.

Stormblood can't be said to hold true to those same ideals. What's worse, they took a step back in some directions while pushing forward in others. This creates an imbalance where some players are okay with the changes, and others arent.

To give some examples:

- Most classes had their DoT's removed (Please give us back scourge. ; ~ ;)
- Some classes were outright reworked. (BRD)
- Addition of debately useless gauges. (Oath Gauge / Lilies)
- Addition of two additional DPS classes, which only further contributed to the issue of DPS abundance.
- Some classes currently feel wierd/wonky to play, according to a large percentage of the playerbase. (I mostly see DRK's complain about their class, tbh though.)
- Skill bloat. Take a look at SCH/SMN and realize how horrifying it can get.

While the acting and story presentation were definitely better this expansion, it's also undeniably suffering from them trying to world-build way too fast. The Azim Steppes were my favorite location this patch, and it's literally useless to be there once you're done with the area. That wide, expansive, open field of....nothing relevant anymore. This sort of issue needs to be remedied asap, imo.

I seriously think square dropped the ball on SB in terms of story. It felt rushed, and really the game would have benefited immensively if Ala Mhigo was given it's own expansion, and then Doma was given it's own seperate expansion.

I started playing by the end of Heavensward, never got to experience it really but what I love the most is the "snow theme" if you know what I mean, I think when you work with such theme in rpg's/mmorpg's in general you got a lot more to get based on, awesome dragons, nordic thematic and etc, but it's mostly because I love these types of 'inspiration'.

I didn't say anything about statics. Name one piece of content that can't be cleared with a Dark Knight or Samurai in the party.

You were talking about groups and all content, when was the last time pug beat Ultimate?

I didn't say pug, either. Name one piece of content that can't be cleared with a Dark Knight or Samurai in the party.

Just because you can clear everything with any composition doesn't mean a player shouldn't worry about composition because most of groups and near all of them for end game content are carring about job composition. Because having good jobs (and good chemistry between them) makes everything easier and faster. Therefore Samurai will struggle a lot of more to find team than let's say Ninja and there far bigger chance the team Samurai will find will be a lot of worse skill wise. I'm talking about content such as O8S or Ultimate, obviously there are 0 issues with doing Jade Stoa farm as Samurai (excluding speedrun ones)

Honestly, it's just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing to demand that someone either play what you want them to or not at all. I really hope they make future savage content super casual just to ♥♥♥♥ over those kinds of people.

HW was literally every single JRPG plotline about Evil Pseudo-Christian Religion with dragons added in. It wasn't at all unique. I don't see why people like it so much when I can boot up a lot of the SMT franchise, or even the Tales of franchise and see the same rough plot.

This little bit is hilarious now.

I like Heavensward and SB about the same, although I thought Heavensward's story was slightly better than SB's because it tugged on the heartstrings more, and because King Thordan was a really good villain.

The raiding in Stormblood is better IMO. All the trials have been superb, and the 24-man is a lot of fun.

Liked both, prefer Stormblood. Insert witty and insightful meta-discussion here. Also a WHM main. My Lodestone is 'noneofyourbusiness'_com, because who cares.

Don't mind me, just throwing subjective opinions that aren't relevant, much like other people. Especially love the trite reasons why rando-Joe doesn't like SB. Yeah, that wide-open space clearly wasn't used for the largest-scale duty-quest in the game and isn't a HUB for the latest beast-tribe or anything. Side-note, I hated that shíte-hole of a place anyway, but yeah, subjective stuff.

Carry on - I'll be over here throwing Stone III's and bopping to the SB music, because screw meta - which is an aid, not a coffin nail.

HW was solid for sure. However I personally feel that the story went a bit weak after defeating nidhogg (Warriors of Darkness..... although the very end was also solid)
