FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

Name penalties.
On a scale of 1 to 10 how seriously are they monitoring character names?
I've currently installed the trial version to see what all the fuss is about.

But I'm a fan of giving my character comicly bad named or punny names.

Like I don't know, naming your female lalafell Flesh Light.

Depends on how many people report you. I report names like that.

It seems on par with most online game. Perhaps slightly more strict, but not much. Roleplay names are not required or anything like that. Names that are obviously made to be offensive get reported pretty quickly. Silly names/puns are fine.

For what it is worth, the online community is so much nicer and patient than other online games. It's crazy really. I've never seen someone flip out and get insulting in nearly a year of playing. Not once.

I doubt it

Can guarentee anyone who says the game is the nicest community has literally only done Derp Finder and nothing else, or anything challenging.

True, but, still is way more polite than any Free or sub MMO out there. People are usually willing to explaining, when I get Stressed with someone I just say: "it's not gonna workout, I'm out".

It's a mixed bag, but proportionally, I have run into far fewer problem players in XIV than I have in WoW, GW2, STO, a long list of free, 'free' and one-time purchase MMOs... Basically every MMO I've played since City of Heroes died.

There are PF groups that are actually willing to explain mechanics in practice parties, instead of staying silent the entire time and disbanding on a whim. (Though that happens, the fact that it is not the vast majority of PUGs means it's already better than WoW.)

In addition to that, most FFXIV players opt to "suffer in silence" over trivial or made-up slights. Where as in, say, WoW, if you tank a boss a single pixel out of someone's preferred position, it's a coin flip on whether they'll whine about it the entire run or not.

There are people in XIV that'll craft you glamour gear for free, so long as you provide the mats and ask politely.

There are even competent and friendly roleplayers that try to build an engaging narrative together. (Just avoid the Quicksand, it's Eorzea's Goldshire.)

Every community has ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. That does not mean everyone in the community is an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Ignoring vegetables and ''suffering in silence'' is another reason why we have so much noobs in this game which only increases toxicity. While explaining is good stuff you shouldn't do it 10 times or until timer runs out and then instead of ''suffering in silence'' you should get rid of this person.

B-but I don't wanna hurt the Blizzard Mage's feelings!

Definitely, I've not met many people on this game that take advice on how to play their class well, it's usually ignored completely such as monks not putting on fists of fire or they try to be snide and rip into any mistakes you make such as losing aggro in the middle of a large pull because they decided to single target on purpose.

It's because of this toxic attitude that I've stopped trying on DF sessions, I don't see why people should be so sensitive over a game.

Let's be honest people! How many times did you try to communicate with teammates to have your tank Rush boss and ♥♥♥♥ it, DPS not bothering to dodge AoEs and healers refusing to help?

less than half of the time, ate least, from my experience.

In one of these days I did Aurum Vale for the first time with other 3 newbies, run took about 1hour and 28 minutes.
I have to tank the tank to have the patience to explain stuff, but, sometimes you're at your wit's end when people don't even bother getting the items to remove the debuffs and you have to heal 3 people far from each other. The first boss alone took 55 minutes, after defeteaing the second boss on the second try we rushed the Morbol, it was way easier, because, everyone had gotten the hang on of the mechanics, and after we did it from a paper thin margin, it gave a feelin' of acomplishment.

The point is, how long are you willing to really help a new player out? Or how do you identify is not just a bad player saying, ♥♥♥♥ this is just one more run.

You've got a some bloody patience to help some people through AV on the first boss for 55 minutes, if I had explained and they just weren't learning, I'd had left right there and then unless they were particularly chatty.
I just hate it when people don't know the mechanics, don't ask questions and never learn even if you're explaining, I know mental disabilities may come into it but it's better not to assume.
