Lag or some sort of hidden GCD ?
New player here, leveling a ninja for my first character, level 42 now and i've been noticing something since i got my mudras,

If i don't do anything, not triggering any GCD, and i cast ten > chi > ninjtsu spamming very fast, it works well, but when i cast spinning edge before for example, which trigger the GCD and then immediately try to cast ten >chi , it has a little latency or something that make ten not launch, which make me mess my ninjutsu quite often

Am i the only one ? is there something i don't undertstand ? or have you guys just got the habit of waiting a tiny bit after casting a gcd tiggering skill before your mudras ?

There can be some delay yes. The servers for FFXIV feel a bit .... cheap.

Im french, sorry for my bad english.

No hidden GCD :) and false, the servers of ff 14 are not bad. An article explained than to get a good quality of connection and miss intempestives disconnections, the servers use checking packages system (in fr: système de vérification des paquets) , that take just a little more time of some milisecondes. The servers quality is good ! It s just a choice from developpers. And its a pve game. Thats while this choice certainly.

No hidden GCD

"servers are good" - try going into Eureka then or any other major player based content and tell me it's "good" when players, enemies and bosses start vanishing because the servers can only hold so much data OR even worse, you simply get kicked because the servers can't handle it.
"Good" is not what I'd call the ffxiv servers

This and there are constant issues with lags in raids despite connection being good outside them, there is even entire thread dedicated to it in the official forum. Low quality servers also can break specific mechanics such as Virus in O7S where it is not rare to cause issue there because to do this mechanic properly 2 people needs to be knocked out at the same time and due to the servers sometimes one person is being knocked out few seconds later than the other one which fails the mechanic.

Haha our static was complaining of this last night lol for the past 2 weeks we've been having o7s virus issues because the server doesn't 'tick' fast enough to pass rot and we wipe. It's totally stupid how bad SE let these servers get
I main astro and when I use collective unconcious it can either proc instantly or up to 4 seconds (which you can imagine is a really long time)

So there is a solid but kind of complicated(depending on how knowledgable you are on framedata) answer. Simply put these things:

-Every attack has a "Animation Lock" for the first few frames of the action. For example if you used a CD>GCD you will notice that still see the Start Up of the animation of that move regardless of how fast you input it. If you input while in animation lock however it usually still input the move. Sometimes it doesn't and gives you the "Cannot use this action right now" message.

-Each Mudra actually has a extremely small CD between uses. Look at them as you cast them.

Simply put, it's there on purpose to prevent NIN DPS from getting too high. it's the same for all classes. If we didn't have animation locks some classes could puke tons of damage off their CD.

This depends on which server your on and your own connection quality. Aether is a fairly congested Data Center and so there is more latency there than Primal at times. SE's servers are actually very good. I'm surprised they hold nearly as many players as they do and the game doesn't get nearly as bad as games like Ragnarok Online, Mabinogi or Vindictus when they are congested. Let's not trash on servers that perform better than 99% of the MMOs out there.
