FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

Any Discord Users Having This Issue?
Using a Windows 10 laptop, and whenever I connect to Discord voice chats and try to play FF14 it mutes the game entirely and I have to exit and restart the game to fix it. Fiddling with Discord's attuning and turning off the mute setting under communications on Windows didn't do anything. Only happens with FF14 and not any other games as far as I know, which is weird. In-game audio is set to remain on even when window isn't active. It's happened multiple times but when I connected to discord while in-game today a weird error message popped up in the game window about the audio and I had to exit the game. Does anyone else experience this?

I know it's been like a year since you posted this, but I have this issue, too. Does it look something like this?

"An unexpected error has occurred. Exiting FINAL FANTASY XIV.

If so, I'm currently looking into the issue with both Discord and Square Enix forums. If you happened to figure out a solution, I'd love to hear it. I just bought the game a couple months ago and I'm on Discord all the time now that Twitch is no longer active for calls.

I don't believe so, no. I run all audio through my headset, I don't have any other speakers. I haven't checked FFXIV's audio device settings, normally having everything on "default" works fine. I did switch Discord to specifically my headset, I'll have to check tomorrow to see if I need to do the same to FFXIV.

Try turning off discord overlay.

Set all games and programs to just use default audio output, then tell Windows that your headset is the default output, then you shouldn't have an issue like this when a program tries to switch to either default or the headset specifically.

I'll give that a go. I've been wondering if that was part of the issue.

Everything was already set to default as you suggested, I still had the issue. All my drivers are up to date, as well. I've already emailed Discord and they suggested turning off the overlay (like Theresa Barkskin suggested) and/or to do a clean reinstall of the app and audio driver. I'll start with the overlay shut off and try that for a few days or until it happens again, whichever comes first. Thank you for your suggestion though! It's a really smart starting place.

Have you solved this issue? I'm having the same problem. Can't start the game. I have an i7 7700k with 16GB of RAM and a RTX2080, running Windows 10. My PC runs great so it's not a hardware issue from my part. It's the only game I can't start.

BTW, I don't use Discord.
