By the way, I just looked. WoW has had matenance last near 24 hours, though not scheduled. They have regular 12 hour downtimes, and are down many more days per year that FFXIV...

Well yeah, if it upsets you, why are you supporting it?

Again, a quick google search proves that WoW is down a whole lot more than FFXIV. They have weekly down times. Most are an hour or two, with a bunch of 8-12 hour down times. They have also had some of those longer ones extended to beyond 12 hours. There are many forum threads with people saying the same stuff as you. "Why would they do this! Other games would never!"...

Unforunately XIV's base code is super spagoober so it takes a whole day to make sure everything is okay.

i remember a nearly 20h downtime in WoW twice (before i stopped playing it) because a patch made problems and they were forced to push the end back over and over again because they couldnt keep the stimated time

meanwhile we also have hardware mainenance today and the 4.3 patch ontop of it and from experience i can say SE says it will be 24 hours but often its less (not by much often but its shorter) so the 24 hours are just estimated so if something goes wrong they still have a buffer left over to do work instead of having to say "sorry we need more time"

Being down for a day how often?...

Wow does 8 and 12 hours for updates. An hour or two a week for fixes. They are down a lot more than FFXIV...

What FFXIV are you playing that every patch is 24 hours of downtime? The only ones that take this long are the major content update ones, like 4.3. They don't do this every Tuesday and the normal downtimes are like 4-5 hours in the middle of the night.
