Don't get me wrong - ARR is blatantly filled wall-to-wall with brain-dead filler that nobody will enjoy - but 600hrs? Nah.
While I did do some side stuff, I stopped doing side quests and only did main story quests after getting my job unlocked at 30. Unless they changed something, I was way over leveled with WHM before I even hit hevensward and switched to AST.
Keep in mind most of the side stuff though was done on other classes as this was back when you had to level THM and ARC to unlock all the cross-job skills you needed as a WHM. I also don't recall doing much of the roulette, but even so...I never have hit a barrier outside of completing a dungeon to progress the story, and did so mainly by focusing on the story.
I really began to push because as I have said, the ARR story does start to get old quickly since it's basically the same old fantasy orgin story you have heard before. Took about a week for the ARR, another for the epilogue, and three weeks for the hevensward and it's epilogue. Though again I did switch main jobs which set me back to 30 and paused the story until I got it caught back up.
If you take one job and stick with it, you should easily be in the 60 range by the time you complete ARR and it's epilogue, you should be at 70 before you even reach stormblood. Which together should take a persistant player an aveage of about a month to complete at a couple hours a day.
I say this about multiple titles tbh, it would be a bit daft to purchase a lvl-up potion unless you're doing an alt character. You get more out of it. That is assuming that it's a first character.
As you progress, the running about is slighty less arduous. So yep, there's that. for ur quick levelling, just do palace of the dead with a main class and you're MSQ's are a breeze, can beast through them.
Must admit the "running about" in ARR stuff was a little boring. It does get way better thuogh, much more fun to be had on HW/SB content.
definitely not on main's, i did a lot of sidequests in between tbh. just seeing what different this and that's are all about. good learning. But i seem to prefer reading through everything and seeing what the jist is. rather than powering through to play with the big boi's.
Some people alike myself, prefer to examine a game in it's entirety, so that when somebody asks for some help. can give it instead of providing the good old "sorry, i'm not sure". Either way, it depends on how you do want to do it.
i think i was lvl 50 in 3 days. So that's about the size of it. but at the time, i lacked gil. hence needed to do story quests. because i had no idea where all the guilds were, let alone locations (didn't have access to all aetheryte's, so trundling about obvliviously was the thing. But again. didn't mind, cause i'm finding new quests for cash all over the place).
Getting levelled wasn't so harsh.
Where exactly are you putting the 'end' of the MSQ? With the actual first story, epilogue, or further? Mostly out of curiosity, as I recall with my WHM being just about the same by the end of the story before the beginning of the ARR's epilogue.
Implying this game isn't easymode.
also what other have said, the DPS queue's are horrible and it's stil not fixed (it's simply because of the over abbudance of DPS jobs and how people don't wanna be the Tank/Healer since they actually take a bit of effort compared to the easy alternative DPS)
If you go for a tank/healer job you'll breeze through the story simply because you queue up for a dungeon before continueing the story and as a healer/tank you gotta stop doing that otherwise you won't even finish a quest before you are ready with the queue (DPS can easely do dungeons while the main story because you got queue's for up to 20-30 minutes (average)
Regardless of how 'easy' ir is or not, ARR is a bit of a slog. It's well known that it starts slow, and the story is largely regarded as plain and uninspired. The whole story does get better and live up to the standards of Final Fantasy...but only if you can past the tedium of the initial story.
As a writer I can kinda understand why it is so bad. Part of the reason is having to redirect if not retcon the original release's story. The other half being that while they did remake FF14 after it's initial disasterious release, there was a limit to the effort they were going to put in in case it failed. Which is why the story suddenly gets better in the epilogue. Also why you see more and more voice acting for the main quiest as you go on.
So yeah, it may be easy but let's not gloss over that it's still a slog that really comes across as half-assed a large portion of it.
My opinion of it at least.
I guess. I think it's a good alternative if one has the money and really doesn't like the MSQ, which OP seems to do. If I made an alt or had to start the game over, I surely would, haha.
