I played both and vastly prefer FFXIV. Not that ESO isn't a bad game from what I played, its just I'd rather play a true single player Elder Scrolls experience. In comparison to that its watered down and the monetization structure is completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

ESO is good game for it's audience and a bad for the FF audience and vis versa. So you are comparing two abslute diffrent games ? This will not work

I wish ESO was just a co-op game. Something like E.Y.E's multiplayer structure.

I tend to think this way as well. ESO certainly isn't terrible, but it does end up feeling like a poor imitation of better experiences. FFXIV has problems as well, yet I jump in to get my traditional themepark MMO fix and jump out.

That said, I couldn't say either is better for the long run.

FF14 is really stable. Square has a long story of listening to the players and creating content dynamically. (Crossover events! Updates to seasonal events! New game mechanics!) The aesthetics are strongly on the eastern side, there are some questionable mount design choices... It is a very good game overall. I have switched from WOW to FFXIV as my main MMO and I am yet to regret it.

ESO had an interesting start, a very Bethesda gameplay which was novel-ish to the genre (we don't talk about Conan Exiles) and I found the game enjoyable in the CBT and OBT. I hadn't had the time to come back to it until recently, looking to play it for the environment design pleasures, but given the server throws me out of the realm every 60 seconds because I'm behind NAT 2 . . . well. Yeah.

You get every last bit of DLC for free in ESO if you subscribe, same price as FFXIVs sub fee as well. The only thing you have to pay for outside of that: the expansions. Exactly the same as FF but with an added option to play without a sub fee.

Also as others have pointed out, asking this on the FF board is going to get you very biased answers.

Problem is, you lose access to that DLC soon as you stop paying. Comparing ESO's DLC to FFXIV's sub model is literal apples and oranges. They're not the same.

the DLC and the chapter things are different. You can sub and STILL have to pay for summerset etc to be able to play it. You don't get everything for subbing to the game. The thing that turns me off the most about ESO besides the nickel and diming you to death is the limited skills and the "action combat" system, plus the community is a bit trashy, but that's to be expected from a game that's mostly centered around PVP.

As someone who plays both games, the amount of misinformation towards ESO is astonishing. I'll squash some here: the game isn't mostly centered around PVP, it's more geared toward PVE and storytelling. And yes, you can only have 5 skills per hotbar (you get two), and 2 ultimates. And realistically, you can just pay the $15 a month, and buy the chapters when they come out. Not much else you really need to purchase with money.

played Elder scrolls and loved it. Every quest is voiced even sidequests from what i remember.
THe pvp used to be bad but i think it has gotten better with battlegrounds instead of mass pvp. Thats a plus.
I feel like you get far more out of the game than final fantasy specially since there is no month fee and the game is designed for western audience.

Cant say much about final fantasy as I cant get past the early game :P but im trying lol. Otherwise I can say so far that the quests feel like a chore . I do like the monsters tho they look great , most of them anyway. CAnt say much about animations so far, but its prolly decent. The story is weird so far and feels abit mediocre and only the more important parts are voiced maybe they are voiced in the original version of game?(japanese) I dont know. Ive heared it gets better later, but considering it requires a sub I think the leveling should get more love.

Overall Elder scrolls > Final Fantasy.

Guild wars 2 if you want decent random pvp. AS you can play pvp with new characters and try them out in high level pvp. That trumps over all other pvp(mmo) games.
If you dont like a class np just reroll takes like 5 mins. Which is what pvp should be all about, not farming your char to end game in order to pvp at all. The Server v Server you have to grind for tho.

Agreed people are very misinformed and I had to facepalm a few times while reading this thread.

Personaly for me - i like FF14 have regional sibscription price wich way cheaper ESO+
But i think ESO worth to try, atleast base game, quests are good, game it self feels like single with some coop.
RopeDrink 5/mai./2019 às 19:24
I've tried many times to get invested in ESO, but I can't escape the same feeling I got when I partook in the original beta >> it's basically a Skyrim MMO. Same awkward/dodgy/clunky animations (slightly improved), the same look and feel (with marginally better graphics), and a very unengaging feel about the whole thing.

I'm by no means saying that out of bias - I've played so many MMORPGs over the years that I've lost count (Allods, WoW, FFXIV, ESO, TERA, GW2, Rift, Neverwinter, Skyforge, BnS, Black Desert, Wildstar, Riders of Icarus, Bless, and many others - a lot of which I still play right now), but no matter how many times I revisited ESO, I just couldn't enjoy it for many reasons.

I'm sure there's a payoff if you're persistent (much like FFXIV doesn't get truly engaging until you hit HSW/Level 40-50), but it took me very little time to fall in love with FFXIV, whereas I don't think I can stomach trying to re-install ESO for the umpteenth time.

ok let me lay it out
FF14: really stable MMO with a fun class system and a pretty good story, its worth playing
ESO: a dumpster fire in witch bethesda keeps dumping hot poo into, it says its free but every time you turn the corner there is content locked behind a pay wall, everything about this game is bad and you should just go play skyrim or oblivion.

False, I pay 12.99$ for FF XIV and 14.99$ for ESO.
Mandodo (Banido(a)) 5/mai./2019 às 20:09
Okay, sice I have played both, FF XIV for 5000 hours+, not all time is counted, I do play on my ps4 in my room sometimes, and 5000+ hours on ESO as well.

FF XIV - Positives (some, not all obviously)
1 - Sub is only 12.99$
2 - Quality content, free for all subs, every 3 months, that means 2 to 3 new dungeons, raids, trials, and a whole lot of ♥♥♥♥ other mmo's charge 30$ to 40$ for.
3 - Level every Job on ONE character
4 - The best crafting/gathering system in any game to date.
5 - Excellent community. I mean, the best.
6 - game population. Every server is either locked for new characters or there is a queue to get in, even on the smallest population servers. SE is having to make a new North America data center because the population grew so damn fast.
7 - You NEVER need to buy anything, EVER, on the Mog store. EVER.
8 - NO IN GAME STORE. NO MESSAGES TELLING YOU TO BUY SOMETHING OR VISIT THE STORE.
9 - Story is fantastic. If you love FF series, you'll be deep in love with FF XIV.
10 - Guaranteed expansions every 2 years. That includes new jobs, areas, dungeons, raids, trials, and all kinds of stuff in my opinion, worth more than 60$
11 - Fully customizable UI, I mean anything.
12 - Best controller layout for an mmorpg I have ever seen. I always though it would be clunky and weird and trying to remember stuff but, it's actually not.
13 - Gold Saucer.
14 - In 5 years, playing since beta, I have had ONE glitch. ONE. Ever. I fell through a floor. I tried doing it again but I couldent replicate it.

FF XIV - Negatives
1 - It's a sub game.
2 - Very little voice acting, there is a ton but not till Heavensward and later.
3 - Eureka, the bane of my existence
4 - Between ARR and HW is a whopping 200 quests, most fetch, this IS the only true black eye of the game. Most just power through it but it does take a few hours, not as bad as it's been though.
5 - Mog Store. It exists. That's it. Should not be in a pay to play game.
6 - Combat is a little slow till hitting 30 and you have a good set of skills, off gcd's and stuff.

ESO - Positives (some, not all)
1 - Fully voiced.
2 - PvP is really great, better than FF XIV
3 - Dungeons do the exact same as FF XIV in that hard mode dungeons are not just a repeat of the same dungeon just harder but added story and new section, enemies, etc.
4 - Game looks good, I mean, ♥♥♥♥ looks good. I'd say the best looking mmo to date, FF XIV a close second.
5 - The Music, same as FF.
6 - Sub DOES get you everything.
7 - Expansions have actually been really great, i loved Summerset and Morrowind a lot.
8 - buy to play
9 - Mods.

ESO - Negatives (I could list hundreds)
1 - Feels like a forced sub.
2 - Cash shop is everywhere, even the way they made daily log in rewards coincide with the store.
3 - Combat is stale as ♥♥♥♥. IDK why but for an action game, even switching skiils, still feels clunky and like it's easy to miss. Atleast in FF XIV if I get bored with dragoon I can swith to paladin or monk with a touch of a button, therefore mixing it up, or do heals, etc.
4 - Revamps killing the game. Every couple months your skills are reset and you have to respec due to some ♥♥♥♥.
5 - Glitches run rampant. Everytime I turn around I'm always getting stuck or quests cant complete cuz said npc just vanashed and wont come back till you drop the quest and do x,y,z till you can glitch the npc back, after you already abandoned a quest 95% of the way done.

ESO Free to play
1 - Limited crafting space
2 - Less xp gained
3 - Less gold gained
4 - a lot of other stuff that makes you just cave in and sub up.

ESO pay to play
1 - You get everything - 14.99$ sub price to FF XIV 12.99$
2 - You get cash shop currency every month, 500 crowns.

SUMMATION - If you decide on ESO, pay a sub. FF XIV you have to pay a sub. their both great games with, in my opinion, FF XIV being number 1 due to content release, community, and Dev interaction, they listen to us.

My take, I log into FF XIV after a few weeks and the Free Company(guild) is alive and active and has new members. I leave ESO for 3 weeks and come back and all 3 guilds with 150+ active members is dead.

But one FFXIV expansion is larger than all ESO expansions combined for less price. I love both games but ESO is very expensive compared to the content you get, mainly talking about expansion prices. Small zone for 40e is not ideal for the customer at all

Same exact thing here. I have tried so hard to force myself into liking ESO, mostly because I would rather not pay a sub, but I just can't no matter how hard I try. I've done research into the lore to try to get involved story wise and stuff like that, it just feels off. I guess I just like a more traditional MMO experience. Can't say I loved FF 14 instantly, I installed and uninstalled a few times over the years, and the ARR story quests seemed a bit boring but when I finally committed to playing through it I started to really like it. I just finished ARR and about to start HW, I hear it only gets better so super excited about that. Also, side note, Rift was my favorite MMO, probably because it was my first... anything you play now have that same traditional feel but maybe has a bigger player-base?
