Can you log in the same account on steam ver of XIV if you had a free PC copy of the game that was nonsteam?

So I downloaded the base game through twitch prime for free to try it out along with 30 days of game time. Is it possible to have it connected with steam? or you have to buy the steam version? I just feel its easier having all it here on steam compared to having it somewhere else... Also does this come with the first xpac Heavensward? I didnt see it in the DLC.

yes, log in is the exact same, no matter what version you buy, I have both pc and ps4 and play on both a lot

If you buy on Steam, you HAVE TO buy all DLC on steam. It's stupid but windows and steam versions are seperate even though their both the same thing 100%

And HW is for windows version I heard. The free copy I mean. My friend has FF XIV on Steam and he couldent get the free expac due to not having the windows version.

My opinion, just buy the steam version. You can even sub up with your steam wallet. that's what i do.

Depends on what you mean by "connected"

1) the answer to OP is: NO. If you have non-steam version already your Square Enix service account is of "Windows" (=non-steam) type. You can't register it on Steam. You can't EVER purchase DLC on Steam. Not sure if you can use Steam wallet to pay anything.

2) You can buy Steam version just to have it in library. You can NOT use this Steam code on your current Windows account to change its type or anything. You would need to start a new account with this Steam code. And there is NO way you could transfer your current characters to this new Steam account!

3) At this moment the launchers are the same so you can press "Play" on Steam and then login with your old account, leaving your bought Steam code unused. (Same as you can use non-steam launcher to login with Steam-type account without an actual Steam Client.)

This however may or may not persist as they've said launchers have to be different for steam and non--steam versions and when implemented (should had been in April 2019) it certainly won't be possible to login to Steam-type account without actualy playing it from Steam Client. If the other way will be forced as well is unknown.

4) All DLCs are always bundled in the last DLC. That's why only last one is purchasable at any given moment. Heavensward is part of Stormblood DLC. And Heavensward + Stormblood are parts of Shadowbringers DLC WHEN it's released.

5) Since you have non-Steam version you can get Heavensward alone for free for a limited time (https://store.eu.square-enix-games.com/en_EU/ffxiv-heavensward2019). There is no similar offer for Steam version.
