FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

Effective controller bindings?
I'm new to FFXIV and to using Steam Link (and as such, a controller to play most Steam games), but I'm enjoying it so far. The controller (I use an xbox 360 wireless one) works well with movement and basic combat, however, using abilities with it doesn't seem to work by default.

Is there a recommended way to bind buttons/combos to different abilities, or maybe even a mod to make it easier to use with a controller?

If it's not working then you aren't set up or aren't using it quite right. FFXIV has fantastic out of the box controller support.

Describe exactly what you're doing and what is happening.

There's also a calibration setting in the controller settings you could try.

I can move around and attack, but:

I can open up binding options ingame, but nothing seems to change no matter which buttons I press.

Works fine with a mouse and keyboard, though.

Are you using the cross hotbar, or are you attempting to use a controller with a KB/M hotbar setup?

Easy way to tell.

Do you have bars, or +'s for your hotbars?
If it's bars, go into the character settings and swap to controller mode.

Big double button on the left side of the menu, shows a mouse and a controller.

Thanks for explaining it better than I did, Taran. :steamhappy:

OP, since you're playing on Steam Link, the client probably assumes you're playing with KB/M. Even in KB/m mode it allows some basic analog input, but to actually use your controller you need to switch the client to controller mode like Taran describes above.

There's a gigantic toggle switch (like, it's actually designed to look like a switch) in the Character Configuration menu. Make sure it's switched to controller and not mouse. Then you should have the cross hotbar. There's a TON more to setup from there for what I'd say is optimal controller support, but if you're new to the game, that's not necessary right away.
