Red Mage or SAmurai?

I'm playing as a tank (Paladin-level 63) and would like to switch to a DPS, Does anyone have any suggestions? I am between Samurai and Red Mage but I accept other suggestions.

Red mage is basically a spellsword that allows you to weave spells into your swordplay.

It has a very simple rotation and has some nifty party utilities such as Vercure and Verraise.

However it boasts the weakest Caster DPS of the group and mobility on RDM can be a bit weird sometimes (Kinda like a proto-dragoon in the sense that you are very squishy and are very likely to die).

Samurai is the complete opposite, it has the Highest DPS out of all DPS PERIOD (beating BLM by a margin), however it has zero party utilities whatsoever and has a pretty weird rotation to get used to.

Honestly it depends upon whether you are more of a support/DPS or a straight up "My damage is my utility" sort of character.

This is not true actually. it is more of the other way around. Black Mage by a fair margin has the higher dps.

Black Mage through the logs have a average DPS of about 12K to 13K, between the High End Trials, and Eden. Samurai on the other hand is around 10K to 11K DPS between the High End and Eden, being the 2nd and 3rd highest dps beside Monk, and only losing or winning over it by about 100 avg. dps on each fight.

But he is correct on the last part, Red Mage is a good and entertaining class, that while can clear content well and enough. It main role is a Healers Back up, able to handle a quick rez healing the healers out or supporting the Tank when no healer can heal.

Samurai on the other hand is more just about DPS, it has some utility but it is the one with the least amount at the moment. But still being one of the highest, sorta makes up for it.

I would go Arcanist Conjurer
Because Arcanist has both a Healing Branch and DPS Branch
Allowing you to level 2 classes essentially with a single class archeotype

That's two different classes. Conjurer becomes Whitemage

Arcanist becomes Scholar & Summoner

You could just try both. They start at level 50, so you'll have enough skill to see which one you like more

I would even say MNK and DRG are higher in dps than SAM. Especially if a Dancer steps with them.

I can't say for sure about MNK yet as it's only 70 but my DRG is 80 and fully geared and I easily out dps SAM's. I'm sure, as always, MNK will be on top.

And FF Logs is almost always non useable here as it does NOT track everybody and not everybody uses it, it's just the one people refer too.

Me personally found the Redmage very annoying to play.
Samurai is less stressful and more fun for me but you should just try them both out if you want to play one of them, everybody likes different things and there is probably a class for everyone.

Don't look too much at stats online because the most important thing is you actually like playing with it because you're stuck with it for hundreds of hours.

Depends on the content.

Say Eden, that is 8 with 4 dps and DNC's can only dance with one dps at a time. They CAN buff other but like the DRG link, it only works one way.

Now 4 player content it does not matter. For obvious reasons.........

No no, you misunderstand.

It seemed like you were saying being buffed by a DNC is unique to BLM or MNK, when every class can get the same buff. Not at once, yes, but it's not really a relevant point when it comes to what class is better.

For the record, I don't care much what class is best. I say play what you have fun with, and who cares if it's meta or not?

I main rdm and whatnot. It’s fun. My Sam is only like 57 so I can’t say much about it but I also enjoy it. It was kinda hard getting into it due to a ton of skills in your face right off the bat but if ya read the skills and place them appropriately then it’s not as intimidating.

IMO sam is easy when you actually look at the whole picture.

As for fun, I’m biased towards rdm. Building up your melee then goin ham is fun for me.
