Changed to Viera, can't use hats?
This is terrible, I'm a huge fan of dressing up my characters and was excited to finally be able to play a bunny so I paid for fantasia and name change almost instantly.

Also missing the hairstyles I unlocked when I was Hyur, I now only have a few options for hair when I had loads before, I was expecting the Viera to be ready at launch for hats and unlockable hair.

Now I'm in game and none of hats are working, they are just invisible, and I have very limited hair options on top of not being able to wear hats. its so not cool and its frustrating, feel like I wasted my money :rabiAwkward:

Anything short of a huge "HEADGEARS DONT WORK ON VIERA AND HROTHGAR" splash-screen when you go to use a Fantasia is simply not doing enough. The races should never have been released if they were this un-designed.

This is 100% the user's fault for not doing basic research.
I... dunno. You and I consider "basic research" to be looking at all the press, the hype, the dev blogs, etc. But really, that's the mark of dedicated fandom. Most people just expect a game to work. Adding a race without budgeting enough time to model all the gear for it... that's not really right.

I love both Viera and Hrothgar. Not super excited with how they were implemented though.

Hmm well sometime i do not understand Square Enix issues, SE sure is not a small company, they are even bigger than Blizzard and got their hands in so many games. So seeing alot other mmorpgs having no issues adding new races and fully compactible old and new gear while SE complains that its to much work and justs skips it for now makes me struggle inside.

I am a big fan of SE and they did alot good games, i loved FFXI to a certain point till they ruined it for me personaly.

But did WoW complain that they dont have the time to make headgears for all the new races?

All i know that SE always had problems with "mmorpgs", right now they are in a leading possition by having one of the most loved mmorpg but it seems like they are lost and have no clue how to make an mmorpg, they sure know how to make a great story, and yeah i bet alot resources goes in the all 3months story update while WoW basicaly let you strave for new content for 2 years.

SE maybe needs to decide if they want to make FFXIV their leading horse luring in more players, but by this raise the amount of people working at the game, or just keep it like now "a lost mather they try to milk as much as possible with minimum support from SE and poor Yoshi needs to handle it".

I would like to argue if the user only interacts with things ingame and does no outside research they would not see how viera cannot wear hats until after experiencing it themselves, or via a friend or via the community if they're in Novice Network and someone says something about it.

I wouldn't shame someone for not knowing considering they may have to shell out more money to race change back if it bothered them.
An ingame warning of 'Currently Viera/Hrothgar are still in development and thus they do not have all the features as the other races eg. Helmets not showing, unique bought and acquired hairstyles cannot be used.' would've been sufficient when they went to race change during this expansion.
Although that'd be bothersome if they did not plan to fix them later in this expansion or the next.

Dumbest thing I've ever seen on Steam. Why would you research something you'd have no reason to consider? Is there precedent for lots of races being unable to display certain item slots before now? Which races can't display chest or feet? Why would someone assume "oh maybe this race can't use helmets, perhaps I should check!"

Simple: if you're not hungrily devouring every holy word to be published in every live letter, announcement, dev blog, and official forum post, then your opinions are worth naught and you deserve whatever you get.

While I agree that the hat situation is not exactly obvious before you jump in, most players don't consider it a dealbreaker. At first glance, it appears worse than it rly is. Most players don't wear hats anyway for various reasons.
Some other races like the Au Ra are pretty much in the same boat. Their horns clip through pretty much every single head piece and it looks super ugly. Most of them go without helmets even though they don't have to (they often go with just the same stuff that Viera can equip btw).

Some jobs are definitely more affected by it than others though. As a PLD, I have to say that I wouldn't wear most of the helmets even if I could. They'd usually cover the entire face or simply look wired. I'm a big fan of the tank-exclusive hairpins for that matter.

I'd rly like to see more hairstyle though. It's been half a year since release and nothing's changed. One or two new hairstyles per year shouldn't be too much to ask. So far there wasn't even an announcement. The regular races get new ones soon while the new race will be excluded. Not cool : (

"most players", "most players", "most of them". Sorry but this is an incredibly opinionated post, which you seem to be aware of yourself by saying "most players". Yet there are quite a lot of people that would be incredibly disappointed by not being able to wear hats AT ALL, and that's a simple fact. Au Ra are NOT in the same boat, because they can use all of the hats as far as I'm aware from playing one, regardless of whether it clips or not (note the devs explicitly stated they would never fix clipping as it's a huge pain). Also the game should warn hats aren't usable, how the hell is the average player to know before they shell out $$$? The answer is "most likely" SE don't care and want the money from you changing back.

Of course this is simply my very subjective opinion. What else could it possibly be? I can't speak for everyone. I'm not the community's hive mind ; )

Most of my regular group consists of Au Ra and Viera. Clipping looks terrible and is a very frequent topic. It's not flat lock out for Au Ra, but literally every Au Ra player I regulary played with has stated how annyoing this is when trying to make glams. It's absolutely relateable for me.

When I made my first char, I didn't know about the hat situation. I was absoulutely disappointed when I found out and even more so when I realized that it wouldn't get fixed.
I stuck with Viera anyway, cause I wanted a large female char and didn't like the other options much. After the initial anger slowly passed, I quickly realized that something like 90% of the playerbase doesn't wear hats at all.
I gave it some more thought and at this point I don't rly mind it anymore. It's very likely I wouldn't wear hats at this point, even if I could. I tried to get that message across earlyer. Didn't work as it seems...

SE like to say that it's because of clipping issues but there are so many examples of clipping with tons of other armor sets on the normal races that it's such a dull argument.

I dunno. "Clipping issue" is a pretty forgiving way to characterize giant rabbit ears protruding from the top of a steel helmet, by way of one example.

Ears clipping through helms, folded down, flattened, or "combed" back for hats, or ears removed completely. Any combination would've been fine, at least with me.

The long hairstyles being stiff bothers me a bit. Always wishing for some physics or at the very least, animation. Viera really needs more hairstyles for sure.

It's unfortunate that the Leg/feet aren't like the original but this had to be done because of how gear models are handled. I think it's a good compromise. Otherwise all Viera would be running around with no leg/foot gear.

The head should've been an easy fix.

Viera and Hrothgar shouldn't have even happened. All that wasted dev time for 2 half baked races. Could have just given more customization options to the already existing races.

this.
