Fair enough. That what ill do then.
Sue me, but I still think this entire system to be extremely uneccessary annoying to new players.
I m all for the MSQ being a requirement to be up to date with the story, but there is a limit to how far new players that have jobs and things to do , are willing to do JUST to get themselves up to date.
Yes as long as you are about 360+ you are good.
ALL my alts, and I have ALL jobs leveled, have 360+ gear.
I mean, you can buy ilvl 380/385 gear and HQ as well......that will net you over the 360 ilvl.
when shadow bringers release there will be gear vendors that sells reasonably high level gears to start ur shadowbringers adventure, just like when heavensward release they released a vendor that sell armors that is ilv115 for lv50 characters for like 10k a piece. I am sure they will do similar thing with shadowbringers. so u will prolly see ilv385 gears from vendors for lv70 characters.
Solution #2: What everyone suggested
Otherwise as other said, buy crafted gears ( which i don't really recommend, because it's a waste of gil once ur into shadowbringers ). If it were yesterday I would have just recommended you to keep grinding for tomestone, cause if u grind hard enough it's very possible to get enough tomes to get urself full set of 360 gears from mendacity tomes and a piece or two of 390 gears.
Solution #3: Normal mode raid gears
Another possible option is for you to run alphascape normal mode to grind for 380 gears, if you are lucky with ur rolls on the exchange tokens, it will only take you like a couple hours to get everything to ilv380. Helps if you have a fc willing to pass everything for you, and you will prolly just need total of 8 runs (2 runs of each raid, which lasts 10-15m each and there's 4 stages each tier) so best case scenario, 2 hours should get u full set of 380 gears if you have friends.
Although I was never stopped by MSQ. Doing daily duties since 70 granted me enough tokens to equip well enough. No grind needed.
The way content locks are released, caps increased and new gear added it's very friendly to catch up. Even managed to level gatherers and all crafters and equipped them with almost highest possible gear for almost no efford. It won't be that easy in SbS.
I get that. but the duty roulette being time gated means I can t get ready for the early access sadly. I guess if I had hit 70 a week ago, that would have been plenty enough to get the gear easy enough.
But because I hit 70 yesterday and only caught up the MSQ today, It can t possibly grind this in time for the early access.
I guess my only thing to do is do my duties as you say every day until I get the gear required and level up my Dancer job until things line up. At the very least the dancer will be one thing the Early access grants me.
I get it. It s not a huge deal. But I just don t like the idea of an entire expansion being gated behind an Ilevel requirement.
One of the main draw of an expansion for new players is the opportunity to of a fresh start along veteran players.
The MSQ, while enjoyable. Is really slowing down the experience and like it or not. Some do not want to bother with the MSQ and didn't get into FFXIV to be force through it.
A character requirement for the MSQ of old content is in my opinion all that is needed. You shouldn't force people to start grinding gear on old content if they don t want to.
I think my frustrations has been amplified with the fact that I tried to get myself ready for Shadow bringers, only to learn the day before that I am gate behind a Ilevel wall.
Perhaps it's unwarranted and I get it after some thinking about it that it isn t such a huge deal. I ll just spam the roulette on my main everyday untill I get the Ilevel needed to move and level up my dancer at least, until I get there.
It just sucks a bit that I felt so close to completing the MSQ in time and taking my time doing it to enjoy the story, only to have a silly Ilevel gate stopping to progress and get ready for Shadowbringer. When that Ilevel is really irelevant now since a vendor in shadowbringers new zone will get you what you need.
It just sounds silly to me to block me now when in a few days this will only be pointless anyways.
It's not really that bad either. I guess you only need The Ghimlyt Dark dung.
- you can bypass the ilvl requirement if you enter as full party. So do your best, grab friends or try to start party in party finder requesting a help
- if you have at least i340, the best way to "farm" would be Arboretum (Hard) dung (fast unlock; starts in Idyllshire). Yields 80men + 50gen. And as part of Expert roulette it's fast and pretty occupied dung. If you feel grindy dedicated before server shutdown and you only miss few ilvl
- when SbS arrives an i375 set (if they follow the pattern) will be sold by NPC in Kugane for gil
- when SbS arrives the i390 set will be available for poetics
So at best you may still make it. At worst you will be a day late. As I said, it's pretty friendly to get through "old" content :)
They've already helped people get ilvl faster by removing weekly caps on the likes of 24 man dungeons and the 8man raids.
But at the same time you shouldnt expect them to hand everything to you on a plate just because you left it till last minute to get to lvl 70 before Shadowbringers.
This is not that the system is horrible. You're trying to divert the blame here.
It's that YOU waited too long to catch up which has caused your situation.
Anyway ff14 isnt a race to the finish.
Direct quote,
"Level 70 arms, gear, and accessories have been added to the inventory of vendors in Kugane."
this means you can go there and buy gear to reach the minimum ilvl.
PROBLEM SOLVED, like last expansion, and the one before and how it will probably ALWAYS work.
THIS MAKES THIS ENTIRE POST POINTLESS NOW.
So go spend about 150k at a vendor and your good to go. Easy as pie. Hell, you may only need 1 or 2 pieces of gear and at that rate it's only 10 to 20k LOL.

EDIT - This should be marked as solved now.
Thank you.
Understood and agreed. The Kugane vendor is all I asked for and is a perfectly reasonable solution. Problem solved.
Welcome to every MMO ever. I don't know how long you've been playing FF14, but this is the format they've been following for 4 years now. In order to progress, you need increasingly higher ilvl gear, none of which is ever difficult to obtain, but all of which requires time on the part of the players. Are you complaining about only having access to green quality crafted gear because you can't do "end game" content? Why couldn't you have done end game content? Are you not level 70? If you are level 70, why didn't you run dungeons to get better gear?
